See title. I would really like to buy this sim, it looks super.

However, I'm a bit nervous when it comes to Starforce.

Many thanks.

This is a bit misleading. There are documented ways to re-install
rF without having to use a key. Only a format or a new disk would
require use of a key.

Check the rF forums at Race Sim Central for more details.

Bottom line, I wouldn't worry too much about the three-install
limit. And ISI has promised no hassles if you do need to ask for
more keys.

It doesn't even come with a cd. As a matter of fact the only way to purchase
rFactor is as a download, through www.rfactor.net.

Well, despite all the fear mongering, I haven't had any issues with
Starforce or rFactor's key system...

I'm curious though, what do other games like LFS use for copy protection?

Steve, the biggest problem I run into with programs like StarForce is that
they'll block the usage of programs like Daemon Tools. I haven't run into
the problem with RFactor but I also just updated to the latest Daemon Tools
so they may have gotten around it.

Which can be re-installed as many times as one wishes.   And all without
having to ask anyone for anything <wink>

All you have to do is back up the key folder in your profile and that takes
care of all that.

Not this shit again.

There is no problem with installing rFactor as many times as a person wants.

Michael Horton says...

I've never had an issue with Daemon tools and starforce. Have them both
installed on my system with no problems...?

Me too, no problems encountered, even with the last >1 year old Daemon Tools
3.xx version - still haven't updated to the 4.x series. I don't understand
issues that people have with StarForce. There are some issues in
out-of-the-box games that have an old starforce version that causes
compatibility problems, but those were usually sorted out after updates to
the game itself or manual update of the starforce drivers.

Generally Starforce is a bad thing, though. It prevents a legimate customer
from taking a backup copy of the game he/she bought, and I doubt the
publishers will replace a worn-out cd/dvd :/

Problem is that game companies are more volatile than a lit stick of
dynamite. Here one minute, gone the next taking all their promises with
them. I update components and reformat my PC on a regular basis and refuse
to go with any software that limits it to only a few installs. I know they
mean well, but what happens to us when a few years down the road, the
company no longer exists or gets bought out by a less diligent company? You
may not even be able to buy another copy.
