The new Megane Trophy mod is really nice, and today CTDP released a stunning
version of Bahrain. Pics of both at link below.

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

A number of other excellent tracks have been released recently, including
Eurospeedway (also) today.

It looks like CTDP is releasing their F1 mod (including tracks) within the
next week.

This  http://www.racesimcentral.net/%20Mods  has just been
set up as a central mod/track ratings site and database. They still have a
number of tracks to add, but the site should be all most people need to keep
up on rFactor content.

Also, there are currently 275 drivers online as of 4pm est., so pickup
racing seems to be taking off, and almost all of these are road course
drivers. When the new patch is released witht he final NASCAR mod, the
numbers should skyrocket.

It looks like things are picking up indeed.  At last look NetKar Pro had 6
people online.  I'm taking a pounding from some over at RSC because I am
criticizing NKP.  They just cannot see how shoddy and incomplete NKP
currently is.  NKP's driving experience is the best there is, I believe.
But that's all it has going for it, unless the developers get a move on
things.

The images posted on RSC of NKP look stunning to me. Ever considered
that you might be in the wrong?

Ever consider that there is more to a sim/game than graphics?

At the risk of feeding a troll, I'll continue.

Right out of the "box", NKP was plagued with lack of documentation, MP
connection issues, high pings errors, etc. Admittedly, some of that has
been corrected and for that, the author is to be commended. But I still
have the sense that this was rushed out the door to generate some
income for a project that has been in the works for a long time.

Does that mean it won't become a great sim? No, absolutely not. But it
is not one right now.

I don't believe Alan is a troll although I personally don't agree with
him! We have two viewpoints on NKPro. One (mine) is that it represents
an opportunity for a community project and we are investing in a product
that will become one of the best, if not the best, *** sim. Right
now it needs work but all indications are the issues are being worked on
at pace and this isn't going to follow retail releases that are
abandoned with outstanding issues.

The alternative view is that as with the rules for any other product
available for purchase, NKPro does not represent merchantable quality
with the current release and the developers need to address this asap
and arguably shouldn't have released it yet.

I amongst others am tolerant of the concept that we the sim community
should be prepared to act as beta testers, that without our financial
input the project could not have continued, certainly at the pace we
would wish.

It does rely on some blind faith, so I understand why some others would
not share my view.

I guess some of my tolerance comes from the fact that this is a tiny
development team, what they sorely lack is any kind of communications
officer and this shows, although many over at RSC are prepared to fill
the void which ends up a bit ugly. Some feedback on progress being made
would go a very long way to those sharing Alan's concerns. Even iRacing
with all their resources felt compelled to recruit a communications
officer from within the sim community, it really is that important. It
doesn't need to be a paid role, just a person with the necessary
diplomatic nature and ability to write "paid" with beta test status IMHO.

Over the years I have both wasted money on titles that never quite made
it and have had ridiculously good value out of titles like GPL, so I
consider investing in NKPro a small risk in the overall scheme of
things, YMMV...

Cheers
Tony

"I don't believe Alan is a troll..."

Sorry, I was referring to "muffled titter" as the troll, when I used
portion of his statement in my reply.

Well I hope you're right but why does it say that the F12006 project is only
10% complete on their web site?

Nevermind, I just noticed that the 2005 season for rFactor is 80% complete
=)

That nickname is an odd one, kind of troll-like.  :)

The whole deal is that oftentimes when someone voices an opinion contrary to
what's been accepted, that person is called a troll or a spammer.  RSC is
about to ban me for doing just such a thing.  I haven't been banned from
entering New York City, so I'm not that much concerned about it.

I think in a month we'll know whether NKP is a serious undertaking or quick
cash-cow.  I hope to be proven wrong.  Until that time, I'll stick with
rFactor, for the most part.  This Megane Trophy mod is quite nice.  And the
good thing about rFactor is that if you had to guess, you wouldn't be able
to tell whether you were playing the game online or offline.

rFactor has a lot to offer, with solid physics and excellent multiplayer.

"Alan Bernardo"
RSC is about to ban me for doing just such a thing.  I

Who one would WANT to enter NYC is a mystery to me!  :)

Agreed,  takes a good server, but the results are very worthwhile.
I don't looke at NKP as a quick cash cow.  The guy has been slaving away on
this for years.  That ain't what I'd call quick.  Yes I've read all about
the problems and shortcomings.  When you read how much thought they put
into the sound alone,  and the tire debates, you know it has potential.
I'd like to see the Racer guys and the NKP guys team up and produce
something that would have lots of private user support with some really
SMART users filling in the blanks.  Those two communities have a great deal
of knowledge to offer.
