Remember all the posts about the ACTLABS Force RS quality and support?  It's
gone.  A quick glance at the forum at www.act-labs.com will give you some
insight.

That's just too bad.  I will continue to recommend their shifters
though, the best affordable at the moment.  But once there are
alternatives, AL should be worried.  If more people would get on their
case about fixing the damn Performance pedal springs, maybe progress
will be made.  Until then, they'll just ignore it.

I'm just wondering what happened.  Did they get new upper management?
I can't believe one the tech support guys called us crybabies.

Anyway I have no problems anymore with the Performance Pedals after
the mod I did on them.

If you're the crafty type check out my mod to use other springs.  Very
easy and reversable.   BTW, I'm not very crafty and did it without
problems.   http://dragons.virtualave.net/karkrazy/index.html

Here are some other ideas to use different types of springs and void
your warranty :):

set of replacement pedals no questions asked..  Go figure..

A few months ago I got a new set too.  They're great!  I'm sure they don't
quite compare to BRD Speed 7's or a set of Redlines but then again both of
those run about 6 or 7 times the money (7 or 8 times once you add in
shipping.)

Perhaps you could provide a specific thread on the forum your refering to.

Act-Labs Performance Pedals have been getting a real bad rap and it's
totally undeserved.  They took some pre-orders from previous customers and
gave them a deal, (I was one of them.)  The first production run had a few
problems but Act-Labs has been 100% supportive and responsive to their
customers.  I've been using the replacement set they sent me for about 4
months now with no problems, (about 250-300 hours.)

I have the Act-Labs Force RS, GPL Sifter and Performance Pedals and the
weakest link as far as I'm concerned is the Force RS wheel.  First of all
it's an ugly sum***.  Looks like SpeedRacer on LSD.  Second, the shape of
the wheel just doesn't suit me at all.  I'm 6' tall and my 5'4" fat-assed
old lady has bigger hands than I do, (insert smart-assed comment here.)  I
could race with my old LWFF for hours but the Force RS just wears out my
hands.  The shape of the wheel and the placement of the spokes just don't
suit me.  Such is life.

The wheel may or may not suit you.  The shifter may or may not suit you.
The pedals may or may not suit you.  But there is absolutely nothing wrong
with AL's vision or execution.  They provide quality equipment at an
extrodinary price.

Sorry,

I should have been more specific.  The General discussion forum has several
threads describing the inaccessibility of their technical support team.
Don't get me wrong.  This has only happened over the last 3 months.  I love
the product.  Just pray that nothing goes wrong now.

No need to be sorry.  A couple choruses of "Rhinestone Cowboy" for me and

ACTLABS Customer Service has gone in the toilet.

by Glaspa » Sat, 07 Sep 2002 06:31:09

I agree with that assessment completely...

I love this company for two years. But over the last three
months it has went down quickly!

Seeing this post just reminded me that I ordered
replacement springs about three weeks ago and
have never received them or an email response.
I sent them my purchase order for the warranty.

I used to be able to call up the 800 number, go
to ext: 126 and talk to nice guy there who would
help you out and send parts within a week.
And over two years, I've replaced just about
everything on my A-L ForceRS/Shifter/P-pedals.
(including the steering column!)

I just called and the receptionist said there was
no one to talk to. Only one guy is responsible for
tech support, parts and parts shipping!
I see clouds rolling in fast....

I hate to be a pessimist and dog this company,
but saving money by providing bad service is
a great way to eventually not to have to provide
any service at all...

Wonder if it had anything to do with that company
buying them out last year?
They said nothing would change...

....snipped....

They said they weren't bought out on the forum, everything is as before but
lots of reports of poor quality service.  Seemed before that service was the
biggest plus for Act Labs.  Now with poor service, breaking pedals, no means
to see before you buy it seems they are slipping fast.  Beyond the shifter
they don't seem to offer anything above and beyond the competition now and
I'd suspect you'll see shifters from others on the market soon.

Didnt Raymond ??  (last name escapes me) from Act Labs used to post here
quite often?  Maybe he would know the real deal regarding the (lack) of
support from AL.

Woohoo... FOOTBALL TIME....GO NINERS...LOOKIN FOR 6th...

Ed is apparently gone and the last few posts from Raymond on the AL board
have been nothing more than legalize talk that said nothing - "everything is
ok so stop asking"  Never seen anyone from AL post on here in ages.

Do you think they're abandoning the racing sim market?  Over at the
MAME news groups, the peeps there are buzzing about the AL light guns.
AL is a very small company, and with no decent tech support, they're
just like any other company.

They no longer have the edge they use to anymore.  The Momo is a
better FF wheel.  From what I've read, they work with PS2 and PC, with
no need for a stupid cartridge system.

That would explain why it takes so long now to get replacement
springs.  Plus they want to you send back your old busted springs too!
Double the wait.

As luck would have it;  I had a throttle spring break today, (see what you
get when you shoot your mouth off.)

I'll order up some replacements and report back on the results.

BTW:  These parts will not be ordered under my name as the pedals were a
birthday present from my aforementioned fat-assed old lady who does not
share my surname.  The fact that I have said nice things about Act-Labs
while others were not should have no bearing.

BTW2:  I secretly hope that Act-Labs support has gone in the toilet because
I've been looking for a good excuse to buy a set of BRD's.
