Lemme see here,....those who have the fast systems get to go fast and
see pretty pictures. And those who can't afford them get to look at
fuzz and run into the walls?
Gee,.....I guess I should just quit my ***in and be happy that I get
to race at all,....huh?
Must be why Papy advertises that minimum requirements are just a 486
dx66,......we must all be equal after all! So this means that after
two years with Nascar1, and a month w/ Nas2, I'm just a lousy driver
that can't put a setup together to keep up with the rest of you
Einsteins!
Damn,....glad you put me straight on this issue.

Paul:
What kind of non-sense is this. All I have ever tried to do
is LEVEL the playing field. I bring up these issues so people
that cant quite cut the mustard have some ideas why.
Don
This is the most insane "thought" I've ever seen on a computer screen.
"let's make sure the 486-33s and P-60s can keep up, mustn't damage their
self-esteem".
If you can't drive with the frame rate you have, then GET A FASTER
MACHINE!!! Don't even think about dragging the rest of the world down to
your pathetic level. Are you this half-assed in the rest of your life?
No, it is the responsibility of the person with the slower machine to
adjust
the graphic options to get a better frame rate...or get a fast computer,
but
not everyone can do that.

You are 100% right. This whole question was about a level playing
field.
STUPID QUESTION as it AINT possible and I was glad to see
that so many of the USENET people were up to speed on this
issue.
I have a Pentium II 266 and I have achieved some success on
HAWAII with wins and fast times. I have worked extensively with
Driving Lines and Setups and I am always surprised that a simple
little hardware change can make me a ROCKET. I ran 181 at
ATLANTA for 2 years and than a simple hardware upgrade and
I was 188's and some 189's.
My point all along was exactly what most of you told me. There
is nothing level about this game or life. If you want to go fast
just write a BIG CHECK to the MECHANIC or the
computer store. That has always been the fastest way
around the track.

PS. Personally I am very glad that PAPRYUS gave us
NASCAR and I am behind PAPYRUS 100%. I always
look forward to the next version of the software and
frankly they are the best.
PSS. I thank all the drivers for thier replys !!!!!!!!!
LETS CLOSE THIS THREAD!!!!!!!
Man ive got a pentium 100 16megs ram and 188s are are no problem. of
course I have to turn off most of the graphics though.Better hardware
might help but not much unless your old machine was really crap.
Im far from being the greatest racer in the world but Ill be damned if
im gonna whine and say someone beat me because of their hardware,Id like
to think I have more character than that!!!

I for one have never seen anyone from Papyrus claim that all "driving
systems" (whatever a driving system is) were equal in terms of
performance (they can't be "created equal" since that would require
they all comprised identical hardware).
Had anyone from Papyrus said that they would certainly have been taken
to task by the people here, as _everyone_ knows that any system which
can delivery sharper and/or faster images to your eye will give you
more scope for car control. This is not only in terms of the amount of
information you get about what the car is doing, but faster
confirmation that your corrections are acting as you expected - this
is 100% common sense. Just look at the Quake community's obsession
with ping times for a graphic example - the high ping guy will almost
certainly lose since he cannot follow the action as readily.
There are no rules for internet Quake and yet everyone manages to fit
in just fine. I'm playing with a 35ms ping on a P-Pro 200, and people
can choose to either live with that and play me or go elsewhere and
look for someone with an equivalent system and connection. The on-line
system _will_ be regulated, and surely that gives more chance that
everything will be handled to make things fair? Even if the rules
fail, at the end of the day everyone can still choose to race against
those with equal equipment or even not to race at all. In fact it's
somewhat akin to real life - a talented driver in a Minardi might be
able to look good, but if you want to be World Champ you have to spend
money.
As an aside, isn't it interesting how everyone is whinging about how
long it is taking Papyrus to get this up and running, and yet at the
same time those same people are posting messages pointing out
loopholes and issues with the rules that need clarified and defined
BEFORE the system goes live? A quick scan of this group will show
exactly how much work Papyrus have.
Cheers!
