Let's Clean Up R.A.S...(a.k.a. them damn binaries!)

by poo.. » Thu, 09 Jan 1997 04:00:00

In rec.autos.sport.indy they have a post that they put up every few
days that says something like "If you're new here, read this" which
covers some of the basic rules of newsgroups (binaries, etc.) plus
issues specifically dealing with the indy group.  The post is always
exactly the same, someone simply has to remember to post it every two
or three days.  I know Carver, Sokoloff, Tony Johns, etc. have enough
to do, but perhaps if it's drafted we can find someone who is willing
to maintain and post it once a week.  I'll volunteer myself for this
duty, but I don't know enough about the technical aspects of the
newsgroups nor this group specifically to draft the post itself.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Pooch

Pooch,

I think you answered your own question when you explained about the
faq from rec.autos.sport.indy.  Netiquette is universal, and you
should be able to use most of their faq.  Then we can add stuff
specific to this group as we go along.

I would be willing to donate some time in helping develope it.  I have
only been a member here for about a month, so I would just help in the
admin side.  I think it would be cool to break the faq down into
sections, something like:

   I  Newsgroup Netiquette
II Answers to commonly asked questions:
          N1
          N2
          ICR
          ICR2
          GP2
         etc, etc

III  Locations of web pages discussing:
        N1
        N2
        etc, etc

Or we can group by game type.  Or whatever,  I think if we get
feedback from other who have experience in this, a great faq
(Hopefully not too big) can be created.

Thanks for reading,

Paul

This was sorta kicked around during the call for discussion on the
re-organization of r.a.s.  Guess what, nothing ever became of it.
Somewhere there most be an original charter.  Does anyone know where
these things are archived?  Based on this charter we could easily devise
a FAQ for r.a.s. and post it at least 2x a week.

Okay, who's hiding the r.a.s. charter?
