I upgraded from a P90 to a P133; on the P90 I was using a Matrox MGA
Ultima (Plus ?), great MSWin performance, but LOUSY DOS GRAPHICS
performance. Just before the switch, I put in a Hercules Graphite
Terminator (VESA in BIOS, rather than a driver) in the P90, and the
improvement was UNBELIEVABLE, same CPU.

I suspect the Millenium is where your bottleneck is.

OK, you guys, what's up with these Video adapters?

According to Don Wilshe, in his ProGamer 133 write-up at the IVGA
site, the Matrox Millenium is the hot-setup, breakthourgh adapter for
DOS frame buffer limitations.
And yet, Pat Barr, in his response to Don's post, sez that the
Matrox is bottlenecking Don's system! And that Pat's Herc Graphite
Terminator is the hot-setup!

Will someone clear this up?  I'm not about to invest in a premium
Display adapter, if it can't live up to it's touted performance
claims in this area!

Let's get this straight - maybe Don and Pat should give us some kind
of standard benchmark comparison...

Don is correct (more or less).  Whether the Millenium is the ultimate
card is his opinion, but it does rank up at the top.  Pat Barr makes
the uninformed mistake of voicing his opinion on the Millenium while
having never used it, only using an old Matrox Ultima card.

However, the Hercules Graphite is also known as a whip-ass dos card, a
lot of the guys in the flight sim areas are always talking about it.

The Millenium does some 3D rendering in hardware, though, so it could
be a future boon.  Nothing really takes advantage of it yet, but we
shall see.
