Eh... Eldred... New Hampshire is the Cup track this week (as confirmed by
yourself earlier this week).

Dover's next week buddy... (looking forward to that one <g>).

Dang Jan,
Why'd you bring it up? <g>  I can't get a hold on the <fast> setup at NH and
would be a menace there. Probably won't make it home from work in time for NH
anyway but I look forward to Dover as well.

When did that happen?

I've been practicing LOUDON all week!

No problem.  I'll race anywhere :)

Eldred, again my humble apoligies for holding you up.
The way I see this kind of thing is that when I dont see the car behind
me make a move to the inside I just reckon he is unable to make a pass.
My bad I guess..

The thing I dont understand is how people are able to keep up such a
great pace on worn tires. I didnt pit for 90 laps, but I think from 40
laps on I lost one second per lap. Theres still much to learn for me...

cheers, Jurjen

I was having trouble with tire wear too. Since no one seems to be talkin
much ill try to start.

I pushed hard at the beginning and after the second yellow started picking
my way up to 2nd or 3rd, i pitted around lap 25 during a yellow, and joined
in 10th, then worked my way back up, passing low, passing high, feeling like
a superstar. Then my tires went sour, I was over a second slower than
before, and one by one everyone flew past me. I then started doing like
Eldred and pitting as late as possible, picking up fresh tires any chance i
could. On the 2nd to last yellow, there was like 50 or 60 laps left, and i
decided to take it real easy. I hovered around in 13th did until there was
about 20 laps left, and my plan worked pretty well, cuz when i decided to
start driving hard again, i got back up to fifth before the last caution. If
it had gone green those last 5 laps I might have picked up another spot or
two. Great race.

Sounds like a great race! Eldred, could you add me to the invite list on the
server? John has my car file and put me on the roster, but I don't think I
made it on the invite list since the server wouldn't let me log on. Thanks.

I was faster, but I couldn't get a good enough run to do anything but a
dive-bomb move.  That's not my style, because it risks a wreck taking out both
cars.  If it had been for position, I wouldn't have had a problem with it at
all.  You're entitled to defend your position, like Bernoldi and Coulthard at
Monaco.  My only issue with it was because you were 2 laps down, and I feel you
should have given way.

John Simmon

RASCAR race - Dover

by John Simmon » Mon, 16 Sep 2002 20:34:13

On lap 36 I was coming off turn 2 and people were passing me wholesale
(I guess tires were the differenence).  Anyway, I came off turn 2 and
was being passed on the left and thought I might hit the guy that was
passing, so I jigged it right a little, and as a result took out Mitch
who was making a run a run on the outside of me.

Apologies to Mitch who evidently lost his motor as a result.  That one
was entriely my fault.

I wouldnt call that one your fault JS (no I'm not being arguementative
hehe). Thanks for the apology though!   I had an opportunity to back off and
prevent that incident but I didnt.  I knew as I went high that things were
gonna be rough as I believe we were 3 wide on the exit of T2 (not good at
all hehe).  I could clearly see what was happening, and you couldnt really
know I was there so it's just as much my fault as yours :-).  I went into
the race telling myself to just be patient, I obviously didnt listen :-)

Congrats again Tim!

RASCAR race - Dover

I had all kinds of problems this week.

First, I had the connection from hell (so I'm told).  Though my connection
through my Cable Modem and out through my provider was perfect, and my
quality indicator never moved out of the green, I was told I was warping so
I left the race.  The only thing I can figure is I got unlucky and got
routed through a *** router on the Internet somewhere.

The car was EVIL during the race.  I don't understand that either.  Even
with fresh tires, during the race I had a serious lack of bite on the
front-end, and it kept washing out on me.  This situation did not exist
during practice, qual or warmup.  Weird...  I had no damage and had not hit
anything.  This is why I was pitting for tires every yellow, hoping it was a
bad series of tires :)

I guess I was headed towards another 5th place or so finish.  Oh, well.
There's always next week :)
