Rally Championship Sound?

by Jody Huggin » Mon, 07 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Anybody have any luck getting the Music to play on Rally Champ.?
Also I hear a popping noise, is this normal?
The sound does not seem that great in this game, but its a good arcade
player.
----
I have a Toshiba 7160, P166, 24meg, Intergraph 3D, Yamaha SB-Pro
compatible sound card.
----
Thanks,
-Jody-

Yes, I've been told that it's the sound of the turbo doing it's thing.

You can eliminate the popping sound by editing file:

\RALLYC\FILES\SNDS\FXPOP.RAW

and replacing it's contents with any short character string. Even the
letters "any short character string" will do; the file just can't be
completely empty.

I think it is supposed to be some kind of engine noise. The popping sounds
like engine is burning unspent fuel

If you want to get rid of the sound, turn the file
c:\rally\files\snds\fxpop.raw into a silent
file. This can be done with Goldwave (shareware, available on the net) or
some
other sound editor that handles RAW files.

Or you can just bring up the file in WordPad or another text editor and
delete everything but the first line...that works, too...

Actually, I opened the file in notepad, deleted everything inside and
saved the file. Works fine for the less technically inclined.

If you are not hearing sound or the sound is very low
you may (I have an old sbpro 2) have to turn the
cd volume up via command line like:
sbp-set /cd:9
The utility is sbpset.exe and can be found on either creative labs
web site or their bbs.

You might also want to check to make sure you have a sound
cable connecting your sound card to your cd-rom drive.

cheers,

matt
