Hey Eldred - Muzzle List

Someone is maintaining a list of people who have raced in 30 or more
races and has an LPI lower than 10, or are a known wrecker.  If they
meet those criteria, they are added to the community muzzle list.
Here's a link:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Many of the ID's are also supplied with CD Keys, which effectively bans
them from your server, no matter what user ID they might use.

It migt be a good idea to use this muzzle list for non-passworded races
on your server.

I recognize a few of those names.  All wreckers.  So, I'd say this list is
valid.

This list seems indeed to be good. I, too, recognize a few of these names.

I've congratulated Craneris over in the Lightspeed forum for this welcome
and courageous initiative.

Problem is, they just make another ID and start all over again.

Actually john, the list contains CD-keys that effectively ban that
person no matter what ID he uses.  Many of the names in the list are
accompanied by CD-kys.

That's the best feature Papy has ever given us in the war against
intentional wreckers.

Because cdkeys are involved, the only thing they can do to get around it is to buy another copy AND
use another ID....

How did they GET those, anyway?  Also, how do you *use* the muzzle list?
Cut and paste?  Copy them into a text file?

When you muzzle someone from the Sierra.com chat interface or ban them
from your server their UserID as well as a unique CDKey-based identifier
will added to your muzzle list.  That way even if the person changes
UserID's they will still be muzzled unless they are using a new CD Key
as well.  If you want to add names outside of the game, you can either
save a complete muzzle.txt into your Players\Player_Name directory or
edit the existing file by typing or pasting in the new entries.  You
will not see Sierra.com chat from those in your muzzle list and they
will not be able to join any race that you host.

The only drawback to this that I can see is the use of LPI as a main
determining factor.  Another thread here has been raising the fact that a
Short tracker will almost always have a smaller LPI than someone who cruises
the Superspeedways.    I haven't looked at the list, but I would hope that
eye witness accounts are also included to verify that someone really is
wrecking.  If that is verified...then cut'em off...

Hey Eldred - Muzzle List

Hi Dave,

the maker of the list uses an lpi of 10 or lower and you also must have
certain minimum number of races run to get onto the list (i.e. you won't get
onto the list just because you created a new ID and crashed in the first
race).

But even if the latter were not true, an lpi of 10 won't even cover all
wreckers, much less bad or unlucky drivers. Nobody who honestly tries to
race clean will have a problem getting an lpi of 10. Although I am convinced
we will see the odd unjustified complaint.

I'm basing this opinion on my own experience. I recently created a new ID
because I wanted to join Papy RC server races without hurting my main ID's
lpi too much (there's a particularly fast guy who seems to exclusively race
on Papy's fixed setup RC servers).

I got to an RC rating of 5 racing almost exclusively Papy RC servers in less
than a week if I remember correctly, and the ID has an lpi of around 50.

An lpi of 10 really shouldn't be a problem.

Apart from that, I find it perfectly justified if a server owner wants to
ensure a certain quality of the races on his server, and the ranking alone
is insufficient to fulfill that task.
