Superbike Controller Setup

Superbike Controller Setup

Anyone with EA's Superbike World Championship, please list the controller
you are using, your specific button configuration, and any other pertinent
hardware/software information. It seems like a pretty good game so far, but
I just can't seem to find a good controller setup(it could also be that I am
just not that good).

Anyway, I have tried the MS Freestyle Pro, MS Gamepad, MS Sidewinder Pro,
and TSW(original). I'm currently using the TSW with X-axis left/right for
steering, Y-axis up/down for acceleration/braking, and button 1, 2 shift
up/shift down. My TSW works the best so far, but it just doesn't feel right
"driving" a motorcycle. Also, the original TSW only has 2 buttons and a
shifter that actually perform the same function, so I cannot have a button
assigned to stand up, look back, etc. Let me know if anyone has come up with
some successful configurations. Thanks!

Logitech Wingman Formula Force; gas pedal as throttle, brake as brake.
Left/right paddles as shift down/up and left button1 on wheel as the situp.

About as real as I can get, MS Freestyle doesn't work real well...and my
jstick is broken so I don't know how it would work.

Do you push up on the stick for throttle and back for brakes? I found this
type of setup difficult, but I agree that the leaning done with the joystick
feels more correct. I just could not control throttle very well this way.

What is your setup for throttle and brakes? I found assigning a button to
accelerate and brake did not give enough control, but using the joystick up
and back for throttle and brakes was too hard to control. I may just be too
uncoordinated though.

I have the CH Combatstick, Pro Throttle and Pedals, and I map the pedals for
gas/brake. The stick is great to 'lean' the bike.
Forward/back on the stick for throttle/brake is a big pain like you said.

I find forward/back for throttle and braking works fine for me (MS
Sidewinder Precision Pro).

CH Flightstick Pro :
Left palm/fingers rest on top on the flat surface of the stick, like the top of
a steering wheel.  Left thumb works the buttons facing me,  which are the #3
for upshift, #4 for downshift , and #2 to look back (pressed with the ball of
the thumb).   The throttle slider on the left side of the base is for guess
what, the throttle.  I work that by reaching around with the right hand.
Pressing forward and down on the joystick brakes the bike.  My left elbow rests
on the desktop as I lean my upper body forward and down with my face in the
monitor. I've been using this for auto sims and  like it, but I'm considering
getting a wheel for the cars, to give my left elbow a rest.  I find this setup
very natural and intuative for Superbike, although I still suck at it.

Yes I do push it up and back and it is quite difficult for games that
require good throttle control like castrol super bike and superbikes. I used
to use the buttons for braking and accelerating but seing how gpl forced me
to become proficient with this setup I can handel it quite well now. It
would help a lot to have the throttle and braking somewhere else because
leaning the stick while holding the throttle forwards for a corner is tough
to get right all the time.

I have tried a Gamepad Pro, T2 and Ultraracer.  The Ultraracer is ideal for
motorcycle games.  A steering wheel just doesn't feel right when on a bike,
and the Gamepad isn't analog, so that leaves the Ultraracer.  For $20 at
Wal-mart it's a great deal too.

What you haven't tried is probably the best "all-around" controller
for the PC -- the Gravis Xterminator pad.  It has replaced my
Sidewinder joystick for 'all around' use.  (I do have an F-15 Talon
and Thrustmaster throttle for Flight sims, the Sidewinder Pro
joystick, the Gravis XTerminator, the MS Sidewinder pad, a TSW Sport
wheel and a Force RS Wheel).

The Xterminator is a great default controller because you get BOTH a
Playstation style analog pad on the left as well as a 4-way digital
pad, all  6 buttons on the right, an 8 way hat switch, the start
switch, an analog sliding throttle two more buttons up near the front
of the controller, two ANALOG index finger shoulder buttons, and 2
more middle finger grip clicker buttons.  Basically there's enough
buttons here to control almost anything, and enough analog control to
play multi-axis games.  So for superbikes I mapped the steering to the
analog pad, and used the left and right shoulder analog buttons for
brake and throttle, giving me full analog there, and then used the
middle finger grip triggers for shifting.  That left a LOT of other
buttons on the right for any other functions I might want to map.

If you would like to buy one controller you can play basically ANY
game with, I really recommend this one.

I totally agree on using the Xterminator, I am only playing the demo version
at the moment as full version not yet out in UK :(((. I can now give the
pack a 10 second head start and catch them by the end of 3 laps. Can't wait
for the full version

I have an early model TSW. Can a CH Flightstick be combined with it so that the
pedals can be used in controlling the bike ?
