How well does that stuff work Ruud?  It has interested me for some time, but
I haven't yet invested in the TrackIR.

All the best,

EA rewrites the engines for their sports games every year (or so they
say).  But it's still Madden, it's still Live and it's still NHL 200X.
The analogy does fit.  The code they're working on is the same code that
was in WSC because it's all in their minds.

 >> All this rubbish about how they "hype" everything - all they have
 >> done is create a website for people who are interested in their

 >> / todd / LFS guys).

Why is everyone somewhat annoyed with the Wests?  Let's see 3 projects,
0 releases.  (and it's not just sim fans that are upset, but publishers
as well.)  Sure all they did was put up a web page, again.  Screen
shots, again.  Promised the moon and not delivered, again.  Not the same
as the LFS guys because I've played their game.  Not the same as Ruud,
I've played his stuff.  Those developers have a better history than the
Wests.

I'm looking forward to RL just as much as the next guy.  I have the
entire summer or 2005 reserved.  I can't wait.

There is quite a difference between rewriting EXISTING code and writing new
code from scratch.  They didnt have anything at all to start upon.

3 projects?  Thats a little enthusiastic :)).

Project 1 (in the race-sim world anyway) : World Sports Cars
- canned by Empire for being too realistic.  They wouldnt compromise it into
an arcader, so they split.

Project 2 : Announced on July 12th-ish last year
- Only a year old and "the dream is over"?  Give them a chance, eh?

Not sure where the mystery project 3 fits in ;).  The process of making a
sim can be very messy, if the wests released something in development (like
Racer / LFS / netKar and me) they would be crucified as so much is expected.

I agree, let them finish it - if its good play it, if its not dont play it -
its as simple as that.  I just dont understand the people who give them
hassle for actually *trying* to make something.

All the best,
Ash

>How well does that stuff work Ruud?  It has interested me for some time, but

It works great, or at least the hardware, haven't tested ingame yet,
since the controls are there (pov_yaw and pov_pitch) but don't do
anything yet. ;)

The mouse emulation, even though the camera only has 256x256 (or was
it 512x512?) pixels, looks quite smooth. Bit of inertia to it. I was a
bit worried how jittery it all would be, but from the mouse, it looks
very much ok. Quite a finished product, as the program that comes with
it looks more extensive than what I'll use. :)

As for investment, someone mailed me about it, I mailed the guys at
trackIR, and they just sent me one. It's nice to get toys for free
these days. :) I only had to pay some customs tax (around $22).

But anyway, I still have to add some angles to the yaw and pitch
variation, and see what angles do the trick. It's just that I just got
a Surround amp so I'm going to play with that. Damn, those things are
just computers nowadays from the looks of the manual...

I may be getting an InterTrax head tracking device later and test with
that too. Although having some kind of expensive glasses system with
LCD seems like fun, I hope it's not getting me sick within minutes. :)
Projectors and all that seem like more fun (I'm working on a pro
motion platform, with high-end FF wheel, with 3 19" screens on a
Matrox Parhelia; too bad we don't have one right at the office ;) ).

I guess that was their Rally Simulation, which was canned because ***
went (almost?) bankrupt.

<SNIPPED COOL INFO>

Ruud, you never cease to amaze me. As far as I know, you're going to be
the first to impliment an actual 3D***pit (this is the intent,
right?). I think it's absolutely oustanding you're working on this
thing, and giving players (with the proper hardware/software) a chance
to have some real SA in their racing machines. I applaud you for trying
to take the leap from "Look left and right" to "look anywhere".

Once you get your physics engine finely tuned, it could very well be one
of the hottest sims out there. I, for one, can't wait until the day
where I'm able to jump into a virtual stock car in your sim, have a 3D
view and drive around a track online with a few buddies.

What I'm also impressed with is the ability to mod it, adding just about
any track or automotive vehicle to the hearts desire.

Keep up the good work. :)

Sounds like its time for a new computer Philster!

He may have meant all sorts of things. He didnt mention WSC once.

It was in reply to

"> Because other good sims have been released its the end of Racing
Legends?"

Remember when it was due for realease in like 2001?? lol..

He's talking about RL as if it's WSC. The two are entirely different.

*cough* Sure they are.... Er, When did the Wests come about.. 2000? 2001?
What have they promised?   ALOT!
What have they delivered.... we'll leave it there...

This gets just toooooooo repetitive but all I can say is people are sheep.
I'd be first to buy the Wests sims if they came up with anything they
promised but as of yhet they haven't and haven't shown any signs of anything
coming any time soon so what can you do?

Talents they have in their chosen fields is in no way matching their unreal

:)

1) Do I have to install Direct X 9.0 to enjoy those privateers' efforts?
2) My PC works fine with my other games/applications... It's just those 3
that I have problems with (Live 4 Speed, Netkar, Racer). It's disappointing
because I would really want to try them out.
3) Make no mistake: I wait impatiently for RL. I wouldn't want to be
bothered with the Hyperstim... that gadget is for geeks :)
