Jon,
I know what you mean.. It seems to me that if somebody doesn't find something to complain about around here, nobody is happy.

The graphics are getting an overhaul, and I don't undestand what people are griping about with them, I already think they are coming along great.

Well, the video was probably the result of several hours of playing a
replay through a TV-out port on a video card directly onto a VCR tape
which was the cut and spliced and then re-recorded, and then fed back
thru a video capture board and edited some more, and finally assembled
into what we saw today.
Personally, I don't think you can really tell too much from the video
other than the GPL physics engine is implemented (did you see DE's car
land after being hit from behind?), there will be specular lighting
(YES!) and they got rid of the armco barrier at the Glen (watch out for
those black flags when you cut the course though). There was no smoke or
skid marks when the cars spun, but I'm sure they'll make it into the
final product.
Nice video, but was nothing more than a teaser. I wonder if they're
taking pre-orders for it yet...

Maybe just a matter of taste, but it wasn't a high spot for me. The
physics OTOH I know will be great, but to have similar graphics to N2
and to have only one car model would be a bit poor (especially after
GPL's car-fest).
Cheers!

What? GPL graphics are VERY VERY cartoonish. I don't even get a sense that
I'm looking at real cars. Only thing that saves the game from elmination
from harddrive is 1) its beautiful physics engine and its 2) internet play.
Beyond that, nothing is really all that impressive. :)

Different opinions Chris...
I for one think that the GPL graphic engine is the best on the market. It's
in a subliminal way.
I relate to my days on the track, with a big shiny sun on the Touring cars.
The overall sensation of visual colors was the same as the Pastel palette
found in GPL.

-Is N3 supposed to have the same internet support as GPR?!?!
I know Papy only got interested in the internet support as a sort of
afterthought with GPR- but I wouldnt' be using GPR today if it wasn't
for it. Sure, it is flawed, but let's face it: racing real people is a
lot more fun than racing sim drivers. In fact, I use the AI for what
it is most deeply meant for- practicing for when I race with real
humans!
Nascar 3 will have the same multiplayer features as GPL, thus being
Modem/Modem, IPX and TCP/IP.
And depending on the relations between Nascar, Sierra and TEN, you will (and
I hope) see the Nascar Racing Online Series go with Nascar Racing 3. It's
more complicated than you think, but there is plenty of new alternatives
that could happen especially if they can find a way to create LAN based
online racing not going throught the Internet.
There is rumors about a phone company who would want to get involved in a
1-800 type of number with a certain monthly fee.
Papyrus has had interest in online racing way before Grand Prix Legends. In
fact for Nascar Racing 1 almost 3years ago you had a system called Hawaii,
that permitted 30drivers online racing over a BBS in the Papyrus
Headquarters. From this happened the NROS afterall.

Am I the only one who is _severely_ dissapointed that at this stage of
development, all we are seeing are screenshots, and a hokey movie?
I mean, this thing was supposed to _ship_ in December 1998. They are
only far along enough to provide us pretty pictures and a
non-informative movie?
This worries me, folks. This tells me that they aren't _anywhere_ near
completing this game. No where close.
If a real Demo were provided, with real cars and a real track (just ONE
track) to show what has been done (and to keep us busy and not whining -
Look what the Viper Demo did for Viper Racing!) then I sure would feel
better.
I can't help but feel that this project is in dissarray.
