Version 1.21 made the AI cars pause a little before the did that
pivot.   That is supposed to allow for them doing a proper turn.

When my Friend (Hi Phil Otto) and I race via null cable, we see the AI
rubbin the whole race.   You actually driver through tire smoke and I
can tell you it gets the heart jumping.

Does anyone know if the following things that I found annoying in NASCAR
will be fixed in NASCAR 2? :

        1)  I don't always want to qualify last.  I would like to
have the suspense of running my lap and waiting to see if
that #3 car can bump me.
        2)  I hate always pitting in the same spot.  I would like to
have to pit on the back if I really sucked that day.
        3)  No more single file restarts aside from inside 10 laps to go.
Single file restarts make it tough to get a lap back.
        4)  Let me incrementally fix damage on may car instead of a 2
minute pitstop losing a lap.

Thanks for the input...

Some additional things I'd like to see addressed--

* Get the AI cars to turn themselves around normally after a wreck or
spin, instead of the way they currently "pivot" as if there were a pole
stuck through the center of the roof.  I mean, -they- can get straightened
out in a second, while it takes me a lot longer to make a three-point turn
(usually mangling my bumper against a wall because of that darn mirror).

* Have the AI take themselves out of the race in more interesting ways
than just "slipping on a banana peel" and spinning out, or entering the
pits and never returning.  I want to see those cars frammin' and bammin'!
I wanna see an AI car limp around the track with engine trouble!

* Better sound, perhaps?  I've heard this may be a possibility.  The air
wrenches need to be changed.  A matter of personal taste, but I have grown
to dislike the little "zip-zip-zip" that accompanies a tire change now.
Similarly, have you any idea how rough a Winston Cup stocker can sound at
yellow flag speeds?  How about some more "catastrophic" crash noises?  If
I end up impaling myself on the pit road wall at Richmond, for example, I
expent to hear a bit more than the current "clank" noise, followed by
silence.  How about some screeching metal, or dying engine noises?

: Thanks for the input...

Indeed, thanks a lot, guys!

AMEN on #4. That's been a big concern of mine as well. If I want to
stop and fix only part of the damage to avoid losing a lap, I should
be able to.

Actually, that's an undocumented (as far as I can tell) feature
of multi.exe version 1.36.  If you are under caution with multi, hit the
F9 (Pit Stop info) key.  You'll get a summary of the work that will be
done at the next pit stop.  Above that, there is a little red bar that
is slowly increasing in length.  This is the position of the pace car
on the race track.

If you are in the pit repairing, you should see a message like
Repair (27 sec.) or something like that.  When the pace car is nearing
turn three, hit the enter key, toggling "Repair" to "Do not repair"
You'll be rewarded with the familiar thump and you can blast out of the
pits just ahead of the pace car, circle around and pit again to repair
the remaining damage.  Try it yourself and see.  It's really pretty
cool.

Agreed. I have also got a few pointers:

1) When the rear wheels break loose, or powerslide, the RPMs should increase,
not stall as they do. With the limited amount of feedback you get (vision
only), this would be helpful, especially on the road courses.
2) Stop the car from oversteering when you put the inside wheels on the grass-
it is a bit overdone..
3) Add a clutch function, so you could, or had to get the car out of the pits,
and do power-turns. (maybe by holding the stick upwards)Include the
possibility of stalling the engine.
4) I dont`t know if this has been fixed, but the AIs sometimes make "kamikaze"
moves, and get away with it. Especially at Sears Point, and the Glen Chicane.
5) Tech. problems. How about a puncture, a misfire etc?

Thanks a lot...
If that works in the normal game mode and not only in multi it'll be a
race saver at places like Bristol...

I second that!!!

What about AI that get loose but are able to save the car (loosing
several positions).

I've seen that happen a few times in version 1.21. It's less frequent
than in reality, but it happens.

I saw somethging like this in my last race at Bristol--what I imagine
happened was that an AI car "slipped on a banana peel" real close to a
wall and rubbed it briefly.  This gave the illusion that the AI car got
out of shape, but it was really a thinly disguised AI wreck, as lame as
those are.

Naturally, a yellow came out, too.

Do you know if you can use the multi exe in the regular game? If so how
and where's the best place to get it?

You can use MULTI instead of NASCAR, but the "Single Race" and
"Championship" options are not available. So if you want to race against
the AI cars, you have to modem race.

Has anybody heard what kind of machine we're all going to need to run NASCAR
2?  (I have no desire to return to days similar those when I ran NASCAR on a
486/33- takes the realism out of the game when I'm driving a colored box
against 30 other colored boxes.)

Check "Sim Racing News":
http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~harmon/simnews/

There's alot of Nascar2 info in thier May thru Aug issues, even an interview
with Adam Levesque from Papyrus. Somewhere it's mentioned that Nascar2 will
be faster than Nascar1 on your current system but will really fly if you
have a video board with the Rendition 3D chip. There is alot of talk about
video boards & processors in this group right now which should provide
additional info. I'm going to wait until Nascar2 comes out before I make any
upgrade decisions.

I get smooth graphics now on my P5-100 but I have to run with everything but
car detail, skids, smoke and objects off. If I can spend $200 on a
Rendition board and get 30+FPS with all of the "eye candy" on I won't
hesitate a second. I'll probably buy a 166MHz CPU when the price comes down
a bit too.
