I just got this game for the PS2 the other night and having a blast.  Wondering
if anyone else was playing it and what they thought.  I'm finding lots of sim
stuff you normally don't find in console racers.

cockpit view (and quite a good one)
pre-race setup
driver AI that holds a grudge (apparently rubbin' ain't racin')
car damage that affects handling/performance
realistic pit checklist and animation

and the car and track graphics are stunning - better than Gran Turismo 3.  Sears
Point was excellent and Vancouver is downright claustophobic.

Anyway, I'm about to review this game for a magazine and just wondered what the
general concensus was from a primarily PC group of racers.

Thanks.

says...

Apparently the guys at Game Faction weren't nearly as impressed as you
are:

From their review at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

"Pro Race Driver is a great concept in a game that's sadly poorly
implemented. The lackluster look of the game and even Ryan's irritating
behavior could be forgiven if the game were just fun to play. Some may
find the game's simplistic physics and vast array of cars and locales
entertaining, but anyone looking for a reasonably realistic driving
experience will likely feel let down by this game."

and the summary line:

"Looking for a realistic racing sim without the realism or the
simulation? This is your game."

They gave it a 70%. Doesn't sound like a game that this crowd would much
enjoy...

If the early PC Demo was anything to go buy  - it ranks somewhere between an
AOL cd, and a piece of fluff.

I was really disappointed by this game. The physics were really bad (even
with the SIM cheat code). You can't qualify. Lots of jaggies. Bland
graphics. Disappointing force feedback effects.

I once hit the back of an opponent's car and send him sideways and off the
track. Five seconds later, he passed me back! Not very realistic. He should
have lost a lot of time. It's an arcade game, not a simulation.
