framerate compared to ICR2,there is no comparison!Get with it guys.A patch

Now hold on, back up the tuna truck!!! Don't tell me I just wasted 200
bucks on a Screamin 3D (Which is due at my doorstep on Wednesday) for a
higher frame rate? Hell, I could just leave all my detail off. Why in
the world would Papy or ahem $ierra make such a cool game (Bugs ignored)
and leave out the AA feature with a Rendition card? Well, maybe if the
would come out of there development holes with that damn Grand Prix
bullshit and that off road ***and finish the stuff they start. (hint,
ICR2, hint N2!)
Flames welcome if it is worth it.

You didn't get screwed Brian, you just paid $10 per additional frame per
second - except in turn 4 of most of the tracks where you paid $150 bucks
for no gain  :)
I agree, though, it sure would be nice if the product we PAID for looked
as good as the one we got for FREE.  My .02.

Hi Chris, Brian, Bill,

Don't get me wrong on this, but the past few threads have been
about the lack of AA in N2, and the problem with cash outlay for
the card...Cost (and AA) aside, you all bought the Rendition for a
single title?!!

And to let you all in on something, IMO no one has gotten the 3D
version of ICR2 for free...since it only comes with the card (Cyrix
patch exempted).  Kinda' like the ad that says 'buy one, get one
free'...More or less each cost you 50%.  You paid for the card,
hence you paid for the included CD.

Sorry...I'll step off my soapbox.

Best Regards,

Marc

Yes, I bought the Rendition card for Nascar2 only.  What other reason is
there to own one?  With the exception of Indycar2 every other 3D title
is available and runs better on a Voodoo card.  I know many people who
only have a Rendition card to play Nascar2.
So are you saying that you bought a Rendition card because it came with
Indycar2? <g>  I already owned Indycar so I prefer to think that it was
free rather than think I payed for it twice.

Throw in some Indycar smoothness to go along with it.

Yes actually Nascar2 is the only game besides nascar1 that I play.
Since its the only game I play i seen that the card was supposed to make
it great like icr2.  then ya put nascar on it and its like wow what a
shitty diff.  Come on Sierra/Papyrus Get on the ball with this
already!!!

Hi,
Um...this might sound stupid, but could someone please tell me what
anti-aliasing is and what it has to do with a rendition card?? I own a
reactor 3d card, (or what ever the new name is) and I'd like to know
what I'm missing, if anything at all.
Thanks,
Matt

<snip>

Yes, that's the ONLY reason I bought the Rendition card.  Do
you find this hard to believe?  I mean, nothing else on the
limited list of games ported for Rendition interests me.  I guess
if you find it hard to believe that I spent a mere $176 for a
video card just to make Nascar2 look better, you'd really
have a ball flaming me for the other (and much more expensive)
upgrades I invested in trying to get the most I can out of
this sim. <BWG>  If I wasn't into this sim as much as I am, I
would've waited for awhile to see where this video market
is going to end up at......but, since there is something out
now that makes my sim of choice run much better, I was
willing to put out the $$$$ for it.  Just wish the AA was included
in the sim that caused me to purchase it anyway.  Being one
of the few games that comes Rendition ready out of the box,
I expected to see the AA in it, particularly since Sierra
manufactures one of these cards themselves.

Anti-aliasing is a graphics effect which smoothes the jagged lines which
are common in most computer games because of the limited resolutions on
high-resolution displays.  It has a very dramatic effect on image
quality especially on driving games such as Indycar2.  IMO, Nascar2
would benefit even more from such a feature.

If you want to see the effect load Indycar2 on you Reactor and go out on
a oval track like Michigan.  Stop somewhere you won't get hit and press
Alt-A which toggle anti-aliasing on and off.  Look closely at the edges
of the track lines and walls as you toggle it on and off.  The
difference is amazing and the main benefit is it makes it easier to see
farther down the track.  This should now be a mandatory feature,
especially in Sierra products since they sell a video card which
supports it.

<< the past few threads have been

Marc,

To answer your question simply, "Yes."  The only reason that I bought the
rendition card was for N2 (it was a birthday present to myself).  Of
course I hoped that future software would support it too, but at the time
the only thing I was hoping for was REALLY fast graphics for N2.  And
while the frame rate is good until you get in heavy traffic, where it
drops, the lack of full support for the card (AA in particular,
transparent smoke also) is disappointing. It just seems strange that the
only really good support for the card is the title that comes with the
card (screen shots of which helped to sell me on buying it) and the
production software doesn't provide all the features the card it capable
of, and that I think we were all expecting.

It's a shame, but I guess this just proves the old axiom "Buyer beware".

Chris Patrick

I have 4 rendition cards just for Nascar 2. That's all I use it on.

Yep almost seems like a trick. Put a killer graphical app in the box ICR2 and
then all other ports thereafter are substandard of that. I always thought it
was supposed to get better as time went on.
