NFS SE: Probs. with game pausing briefly during races

by SGE » Sat, 01 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I am having a problem with NFS SE where the screen pauses occasionally
during a race.  I have tried different video drivers and changes to my
CD-ROM settings with no luck.  It seems to pause when the CD is being
accessed during the race.  Is this normal?  I thought everything was
loaded at the begining.

What can I do about this?  These pauses basically ruin a really good
game.

I am running a SB16 SCSI, with a Toshiba 4X SCSI CD-ROM drive.

Thanks,

I have the same thing. I wondered if it was because my machine is on a
small LAN though.  Maybe not. Actually it does it 3 times within 5 or
6 seconds, waits 2 minutes and repeats.

Anybody know why?

Hi,

I have the same problem running it on my work notebook (at home, of
course)
when running the win95 exe. It seems to pause about every 2 minutes for
about
2 seconds. The screen pauses, but the program continues to run. I have a
network card in the notebook. It does not do this when running the DOS
version
of NFS SE. I remember someone in this group saying that it might be a
problem with windows 95 checking the network connection.

Hello,

I posted the original message on this problem and after much screwing
around it turned out to be related to playing background music while
racing.

I could see the CD get hit everytime the game sort of froze.  I turned
off the background music and everything is fine now.  Some have
suggested this is just a Win95 quirk and I wouldn't be suprised with all
of the odd things about DirectX.

Anyone else have more info??

Hi,

I tried that (set song option to "none") and it doesn't pause anymore.
Now I can play at work!! I won't have to go into DOS mode. The song
option was set to "shuffle", so I assume it was going to the CD to get
the next song. Thanks for your help!!
