You bet.  The instructions for the cars can be kind of confusing at times,
but it's really very easy.  Any problems, feel free to email me.

Essential GPL files?

by Steve Smit » Tue, 07 Jan 2003 06:24:23

Phil Lee put together this sterling list (I added GPL Glance):

1. GPL 1.2.0.1 Patch from http://www.papy.com/framesets/downframe.htm

2. GPL CPU Speed fix from same page (very important on new PC's)

3. D3D patch from same page

4. WiHerr's OpenGL patch from
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49101

5. GPL Carset Manager (GPLCSM) from
http://www.netrevo.com/gplw/newsite/newdefaultjava.asp?GoToThisPage=P...

6. GPLEA cars from http://gplea.racesimcentral.com

7. Add-on tracks listed at http://magnust.d2g.com/

8. 16-bit track updates from
http://www.racesimcentral.com/downloads/gpl/trackadd.shtml

9. Track updates from GPL Today at
http://hem.bredband.net/klafje/gpl_today.htm

10. Program covers from BAPOM at http://www.trilon.com/bapom/

11. JF carset from http://jfcarsets.m4driving.sm to add Cooper, Brabham and
Lotus.

12. Lots of stuff from Bruce's site at
http://www.brucesstuff.speedgeezers.com/

13. GPL Glance at
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44759

14. All about setting up D3D and OpenGL for GPL.
http://www.racesimcentral.com/guides/gpl/intro/gplintro.shtml

That should be enough to get you started. If you ever need any links go to
Hotgrid's links page at http://hotgrids.racesimcentral.com/

Of course you can always post questions on our GPL forum at
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=36

Do any of these blow up your PC connecting to WinVROC?

Actually some like the v1.2 patch are necessary, since that is what
everyone else is using.  The only caveat with winvroc is/are:  Last I heard,
Nvidia cards can't have fsaa enabled and if you use a wheel profiler you
must create a duplicate entry for GPLlaunch.exe

OK, what about the "historical accuracy fixes", 16 bit textures, etc.
Do these mess up WinVROC?

I'm reinstalling as well. I'm also writing up the install for a web page
too.

No, as they only modify graphical aspects of the sim.  Anyway, you can race
with a different track.dat in GPL. There's no checksum, nothing.

A rec for a great add-on track would be Glacier International (if
you can find it-if all links are broken then that's really a shame).  A
very long road course with turns of all kinds, lots of elevation
changes,
kewl scenery, and just heckuva fun to drive.  For the newbies it also
has braking point signs...
