You guys actually charge people to participate?!!

Yes, we do charge. There are a number of reasons for that, and yes, that
means someone's making a little money off of the league, but honestly, I
think a well-run league is worth it. And this will be a well-run league.
We have some of the fastest guys out there, and great presentation, and so
on and so forth. I'm not going to turn this into a blatant ad for the
league - just want to make some response, and have an intelligent dialog
on the pros and cons of this issue.
It is wonderful to have all the free leagues on the net, and I have run a
free league myself (see http://members.aol.com/ctaber for the WRL season
results, just ended). But I got my first sim-racing experience through
this league, last year on AOL, and now I'm a die-hard fan, to the point of
running the thing now. The main reason that CICC is for pay is that it's
based on AOL, (though open to the internet) and that's how they do things.
So I'm allowing myself perhaps a smaller evil to do a greater good.
After all the $$ we spend on the sims and the wheels etc etc, what's a few
$$ for a good league? I would be happy, overjoyed, to send someone like
Steve Wilson of LFRS, or whoever, some money to help make his time
worthwhile. There's a great example of a long-running league that has
been popular worldwide that may be ending because Steve is too busy to run
it.
I also understand that we're all in this for our love of racing, and that
it is a labor of love. It will always be for me, or I'm outta here.
I have posted such a long response in part because I have such respect for
the work that you, Marc, do at Sim-Racing News. It's the best publication
of its kind that I've seen online. Thank you for that.
See you on the track!
