GPL Problem (Replay?)

by Timmy Ferrel » Mon, 19 Jan 2004 07:40:10

Hi All,
I've been encountering a problem with GPL shutting down to desktop and
receiving an error message (Error Report to MS) in Win XP.
The prblem seems to stem from the replay. I can run the tracks but when I
leave the track and the replay window opens, the screen (replay window) will
show the final section of the replay, then show black and white "snow", like
in the old tv sets, interspersed with heavier, green lines. The error
message will the appear asking me to either report the problem to MS or
exit.
I can run laps and save car setups but none of my lap times are saved.
I tried d'ling the Direct X 9.0 fix from MS and even lowered my in game
resolution form 1028 to 840 but still no luck.
I had this problem earlier when trying to watch a replay but now it
seems to happen every time I run GPL.
My system is P4 2.8 Gig
    64 Mb Video card
    Win XP Home
Thanks,
Timmy

If gpl isn't saving your PB's it could be that some files in your gpl
folder are read-only, or that your ntfs security settings are messed up.
AFAIK your player.ini (where your PB's are stored) is only updated when
gpl closes. If it crashes out that may explain why they aren't being
stored, and would suggest that gpl is not the problem.

It could also be a problem with your graphics drivers, although I don't
see why it should work in-car but not in the replay. Try updating the
graphics card drivers, or if you have recently updated them, try going
back to a previous version.

It could equally be something else in windows that's causing the
problem. Do you get crashes with any other apps or games? What is the
error message exactly?

Malc.

GPL Problem (Replay?)

Problem Solved!!!
I went for a complete re-install (While saving my old ones for the car files
amnd such. I went to the US PITS to get the patch and CPU fix updates. I
also installed the GPL Rasterizer patch which I had neglected to do before.
It seemed to do the trick so I installed my old files one at a time
until I had them all and so far the problem hasn't reappered.
I assume I simply forgot to re-install the Rasterizer patch after I
upgraded to a new machine.
    Thanks for the trouble
Timmy

You should have downloaded the all-in-one patch from http://trackdb.d2g.com.
You wouldn't forget anything then! :-)
