F1RS patches?? what gives?

by Adriano Ennio Raio » Thu, 12 Mar 1998 04:00:00

Gday guys.. thanks to the lovely thoughtfulness of UBISOFT they release
patches yet fail to include ANY information on what they do..

SO, can anyone tell what the v1.07 patch does to the game..

AND, what does the smaller sound patch do to the game??

It may have been just me but it seemed after installing the sound patch
the game ran much slower.. ??

On the whole, not a bad sim, some parts brillantly done (gravel on tires
etc).. other parts atrocious (engine sound, quantum braking &
accelleration (tho this may be because of abs and skid help on?))

For me and many others the V1.07 patch slowed the framerate
unacceptably. I went back to V1.05. The only thing that V1.07
does that is worthwhile (for me) is that it supposedly fixed the
tire temps so that setting the camber would change the temps
across the tire properly. Why in the world this slows down the
framerate is a mystery to me :-)

It is a 3D sound patch. It only will work with Direct Sound 3D
compatable boards. Well that appears to no be true. Many
people with the Diamond 3D soundcard say it didn't work
(if I remember correctly). It appears the patch was made with
a certain chipset in mind, which is why I'm not too e***d
about it.

It probably would run slower if you didn't have a 3D soundcard

Turn that ***off :-)

Here is the UBIsoft link I use. It generally explains what the patches are
for and other useful things...

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Click on DOWNLOAD, then  'Click here to download
the new PATCHES ! '.  There are descriptions for
the patches. It appears the 3D sound patch was written
for the MaxiSound64 Dynamic 3D soundcard, whatever
that is...
