N2003 Damage Issues

I have damage set to "realistic" but it just doesn't seem realistic at all.
The old version of the game I used to have was very sensitive to brushing
the wall and taking a tire out.  This version seems like I'm driving a tank
... almost impossible to do damage ... plus damage doesn't seem to appear on
the cars very well.

What's up?  Is there anything I can do about this?

Project Wildfire put out a Cup Damage addon, not sure if that would help you
