I can not get Colin to work on my machine due to the DiscGaurd system
put on the disk by Codemasters.
It is inteneded to stop people duplicating the disks but has stopped me from
even starting to play.
Codemasters are gonna get in to trouble with this big time, come on software
piracy goes on, but it can't be too bad i have seen where the Darling
Brothers live
its a rather s***y place...with a helipad!

So come on Codemasters, pull your fingers out, you are gonna loose loads of
money
on this one, as i am about to go get my money back, i can't tell you how
good the game
looks, cos it just won't work, my drive is a new Sony as fitted in the
gateway machines..
oh dear this is gonna be a big problem.

If anyone is thinking of buying this game, borrow a copy to see if it works
or make sure you keep
your receipt.

If you want to check what it is doing when you get the fault and you are
running Win98, try running the drwatsons program located in your windows
directory as it will show you exactly the fault detailing this stupid
copy protection software.

Please mail me if you experience similar and manage to fix it...short of
fitting a different drive!

Well, I wouldn't say that there protection scheme was completely
uneffective.  First of all, the original pirate release by Backlash has the
WinCIH virus.  Then they released a fix with the uninfected files, and
finally another fix to add sound and also get the game to run correctly.
Without those other two patches, it aint gonna work right.  AND, the rally
school was ripped from the game all together.

There was a also a pirated ISO version (full cd image) with a crack to get
past the protection released by CIFE.  Not sure how well that one works but
of course it is huge (19x15MEG files).  People with high speed connections
will probably grab the ISO if they have it available to them rather than
risking a problem with the protection.  If you bought it legitimately, I
would even recommend trying to get the CIFE crack for the ISO, might help
you guys out. (Don't e-mail me about it either, I don't have the ISO or the
crack)

Regardless, I do agree that it is sad they could not release it in the US at
the same time.  After thinking about it though, is Rally really that popular
here in the US?  No.  In fact I would say that the sales here will be pale
in comparison to Europe.  Sad too, as I find Rally racing a lot more
interesting than Nascar.

But why don't they do this - don't they want to get their hands on our money.
It's a regular feature of almost all sims (released on either side of the big
pond) that they do not make the other side until most dedicated simmers have
either bought it on import or obtained it through less savoury means. You have
to be some sought of seriously dedicated pirate to download 200Mb or more of
data when you can buy it (with manuals) at a store down the road.

Paul, look at it this way:

I bought TOCA from a store here in the USA that gets imports a long time
ago. So I DO have a real copy. Now, Codie gets 3DO to distribute it many
months LATER, but will they get good sales figures to help 3DO to WANT to
get more of Codie's games if many like me were forced into buying the Import
version? No. So it makes good business sense to make it available worldwide
at, or near the same time, don't you think?
