World Rallye driver Gilles Panizzi....anyone who can pull off a 540 degree
turn while racing gets my vote as fan favorite driver....Sure he's ***on
dirt but on the tarmac, he's the top dawg...and having either the gall to
preplan a loop & a half or actually the quickness of mind to complete it
after overdriving a turn, well....he's da man....

I agree Dave, I just loved the way he waved to the fans as he was doing it.
A one handed donut with 3 stages still to race takes a lot of bottle.

Yes that was special.

Especially from the in-car footage complete with a wave to the crowd.

What a star - unbeatable on tarmac.

Karl.

Yeah, GREAT stuff for sure.

OK, so he did have 40+ Sec. in hand, but still, and who cares if he's
terrible on mixed surfaces.

BTW, you ever hear the guy try to speak English? That's almost as
entertaining.

No, but seriously the way French people *from* France speak English, is
quite entertaining for the other Frenchies around the world 8)

On the subject of Gilles Panizzi did anyone catch the WRC coverage from
Kenya either last year 2001 or the year previous 2000 (cant remember which
one), where he got out of the car at the finish control at the end of a
stage and tried to punch the driver in front through his window, because he
wouldnt move over for him in stage (I dont think the driver could see him in
his mirrors through the dust)!?

Forget who it was in front, but it was an absolute classic!! Gilles just
lost it and went for him... I think he got fined by the FIA too.

He won my heart too :-)

The real funny thing is the the only one that seem to be able to match these
Pug's and Citroen's on tarmac - is Petter Solberg in the Impreza....  This
is a guy who's been racing/rallying on gravel/dirt all the time..   - as
we've never had much tradition holding rallies on tarmac.
Come to think of it - i can only recall one pure tarmac rally being held
over the last couple of years!

Go Petter!
