Nascar for Playstation - A few questions...

by B. Keith Barbo » Mon, 04 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I purchased Nascar for the Playstation yesterday and it seems to be a
pretty good port of the PC version, but there are some things that
have begun to trouble me about it.  The main thing is that no matter
what I do, I can't get the thing to have a caution flag.  I have
absolutely destroyed some cars and have not even seen them so
much as pit for repairs.  I am running it in simulation mode and have
the caution flags turned on as well as damage to "full".    I'll wreck
a car only to see him turn himself around and get back in the race.
My car has received damage so I know that damage works, but I
can't get a caution flag.  This really takes the strategy out of the
game if this is the way it is supposed to be.

Also, I am troubled by some glaring omissions of some very popular
drivers in the game.  There are only 20 drivers, but they left out Ken
Schrader, Ernie Irvan, Kyle Petty and Dale Jarrett.  They left Jimmy
Spencer, Dave Marcis, and the Burton brothers in which is a mystery
to me.

If there are any Papyrus or Sierra guys reading, I would appreciate a
little clarification here.  My son's favorite driver is Dale
Jarrett...imagine his disappointment.

Thanks,

Keith

Can you tell me what drivers are in the game?
And does Rusty Sport his Miller Logo, or does it just say Ford Motor Sports?

I wish I had your problem!  I can't finish a race without causing a
caution flag to come out :)  But now I don't feel so bad because I just
saw the yellow flag and I was nowhere near the incident!  After looking at
the replay, I see that Bill Elliot locked up and hit the wall!  There
weren't even any cars near him!

Keith, Papyrus probably didn't have permission from those drivers to
include them at the time that the Playstation version was submitted
to Sony for production. It is my understanding this process from Sony takes
several months at least.

Last week I believe! I haven't seen too much said
about it! Maybe, Barry has got away from it long
enough to let us know!

Ok, I now know NASCAR is out for PSX, but is it worth buying over the
PC version? Framerates and detail good on the PSX? Is it still a
simulator, or is it more an arcade game on PSX?

Anybody notice anything glaringly different from the PC version?
