GP2 on windows XP

Hiya,

I'm having trouble getting grand prix 2 to work on windows XP. I install it
and it gives me the usual buffers problem, but then when I try and run it
the sound is a bit choppy and the intro screen is OK, but when i get to the
menu the screen is all messed up.

I have tried messing with the program compatability but it still doesn't
work.

have a nice day

Hi you tried running it in a compatibility mode?  Right click on the .EXE
file (gp2.exe from memory) and then select Windows 95 compatabilty.  might
work.

tried that, no luck unforunately!

does anyone know of any problems with ATI graphics cards? I have a rage 128
and am wondering if that is the problem.

thanks

I'm in the same boat, dude. I've got an eMachines 1.3 ghz Celeron
w/onboard vid/sound and my copy of GP2 did the same buffer thing, as
well as the choppy sound.

Hopefully, someone will be able to point us in the right direction,
'cause IMHO, GP2 is still a very good sim.

Considering GP3 has unfixable problems in XP, I'd be somewhat surprised if
y'all were able to get GP2 to work flawlessly. Good luck though, GP2 is the
last worthy GP release Geoff made :(

it refused to work on my xp install as well, unfortunately.
if you are a fan of the good old games, then best is you leave a parallel
installation of win98 on your system, that is no problem anymore nowadays,
even for microsoft ;)
GP2 is still excellent of course. Racing usually happens on the track, and
not on the scenery, so no need to buy a Nasa PC just to be able to play the
newest sim.

well, that's quite an ungrateful opinion.

I'm entitled to my opinion, I believe. To summarize:

1) Even GP3 has problems in XP that hasn't been fixed. It also only got 1
patch. Thus don't expect GP2 to be fixable.

2) If you *can* get GP2 to work, great, cause IMO it really is the last
Geoff game to be worthy of the purchase price of a full game. GP3 and GP4
are both hugely overrated and consists of mainly graphical updates instead
of adding details to the simulation or replacing the arcadey physics with
something resembling reality.
