GP500 : wishing list before final release.

by Eric Cot » Fri, 20 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hope the crew from GP500 is reading RAS from time to time...

Here's what I would like to see in the final release, and I think
it's not asking too much..

In multiplayer (the demo) : People in ARCADE mode can join a SIMULATOR
mode host... DOH!! Hope it's only in the demo. Having little "punk" in
arcade mode coming to race against people in sim mode would be
terrible...

Please include in the LOAD menu for replays : a RENAME, so we can do it
in the game. Also is the AUTO-SAVE last replay, only way to save a full
race ??

Is it possible to include a CUT option in the replays ?? Cutting a
single
lap, then saving is a neat feature PAPY has made with GPL and older
sims.

In the OPTION menu then CONTROL, we can't have split axis between gas
and brake, is it possible to do it ?? Also, this one could be more
complicated
is there a possibility to have a rear brake "bias" or better known has
percentage of rear braking ? For those who wants to control rear and
front
brake separatly ?

Also, I've notice in the demo, the program search for a CD to play
music while racing, that sounds more of an arcade game than a
simulator...
Please let's get serious, who wants to hear music while racing ? I'm
in simulation genre... I know you have to increase sales and include
ARCADE mode, understand that. Maybe an option in the instalation process
of the game with the option to turn it off (playing CD music) would
be appreciate it.

Some are complaining about the sound : DON'T TOUCH IT! It's perfect !
I've had GP race replicas motorbikes in my life, and it sounds just like
that (well almost) : Suzuki RG500 Gammma and Yamaha RZ350 (both Canadian
model).

That's all for now, I invite others to carry on this thread. I guess
we can't ask miracle since the game is almost out. Wish I was part of
the BETA team, since racing GP bikes is my "bag".

Great stuff Eric...

Also...  I LOVE the game...  Ooops.. sim  :-)

But.. one thing I don't like is the way you have to race in View #2 if you
want to go fast (I should know.. I took 3 saeconds off my time!!!!  got down
to a 48.052  )    If you could some how ensure ppl could use View#4 or #3
would be good..but only in Sim mode...

I'm sure there are other improvements..  I'll think of them soon  :-)

Hi Eric,
I think I'm in agreement with you on the sound.  It sounds very much like
the onboard shots from the GP races on TV.  If a sim can do that I'm pretty
much satisfied.  Of course the actual on bike sound would be a bit more
"alive" in real life, but the character is pretty much right.  I'm basing
that on the fact that I've seen onboards from 900cc Ducati onboards on TV
and riden one in real life.  Of course wind rush should be a major component
to simulate real life.

One thing they should fix is a defect in the loop.  Sorry to mention it
because it will drive you crazy once you notice it.  Sounds like there's a
cricket loose in your helmet.

regards,
Patrick

ps.  Thanks for the LWFF setup tips on your website.

Except a 500cc GP bike doesn't sound anything like a 900cc road going
Ducati or even a Ducati SBK.

Howdy Eric,

The solution's already in there.  Check out the available [Gamerules]
settings for the GP500.INI file (which you have to create yourself for the
demo) in the GP_Troubleshooting.txt file in the game's root directory.  And
as I suspect little "punks" will be more attracted to GP500 than GPL, I hope
there's some "eject" feature for hosts.

You can name and save races already, but it seems to be broken in the demo.
The game crashes when I try to load a saved race.  You'll need to adjust
your replay memory to get a full race though.  See GP500.INI file settings
mentioned above.

No kidding.  This is a BIG omission, IMHO.  But then nobody's really matched
Papy's replay implementation yet, have they?  And what about individual
setup files?  Working on your Showa damper tables yet? :-)

They've GOT to support multiple analog axes in the final.  Period.  As-is,
with separate inputs for front and rear brake, one's got to be a button.  No
thanks.  And yes, a bias setting when using a single input for both would
help greatly.

Got to part ways with you on the almost bit.  I also owned an RZ350, rode
and nearly bought (should've) a UK-Spec RG500 some years back, even once had
a brief spin on an ex-works 500 Kawasaki,  and have attended a 500GP (at
Spa).  So I know what they should sound like too.  And to me, the in-game
engines sound more like 80's than 500's.  I guess I'd say "sort of" rather
than "almost".

Still a great-looking game though.  In sim mode, view #4, with all the idiot
lights and the HUD turned off, chasing the V4's on the little V2.......
Serious fun!

Cheers,

Steve B.

No kidding!  The wind noise of these things is enormous, like a 747 in
Kamikaze mode.  Terrible drag coefficients, too; guess we humans just
weren't built to do 300kph exposed.

Glad someone else noticed this.  It seems to be erratic on my machine,
related to a crash/scrape sound.  After restarting a race due to a crash,
the scraping noise kept going until I quit and restarted the game.  I've
also lost sound completely under similar circumstances and had to reboot my
system to restore it.  I've had no troubles with any other games, so it's a
problem with this demo.

Hope the sound file format proves as tweakable as GPL and others have been;
I'd be looking forward to some more "Sounds by Daly" for GP500. :-)

Cheers,

Steve B.

I have been 160mph on my Yam and I don't remember any wind noise.  A good
helmet and being tucked behind windscreen doesn't get any louder then when
going slower.

I said in another post that the helmet view tilts too much in #4. Theeyes
stay more horizontal than that through turns on a bike. It's the only major
complaint I have of the sim.

Poorly stated on my part.  The 747 bit was referring to the noise from an
onlooker's perspective.  It's amazing how loud GP bikes are coming AT you,
due to the wind blast they produce.  It's a really unique sound.  F1's, on
the other hand, really get your attention when they're pointed the other
way.  As to on-bike wind noise at 160, I've never been above 140's myself,
so I can't go there.  Maybe you just outran it! :-)  The tuck does matter,
of course, as does the helmet, and perhaps fairings have gotten a lot better
too; it 's been a few years for me.  Older and wiser now.  But I remember it
as being rather noisy, wind-wise.  Anyone?

Cheers,

Steve B.

I was trying to figure out what was so funny, And then I realized When i say
Fairing I Mean all the bodywork as a whole. Don't think I ever called the
windscreen a "windcsreen".

I was mistaken(!) in my earlier post about naming replays for full races.
You can only name and save partials in the demo, and then they crash the
game when you try to load them.  At least they do on my PC.  You CAN quit
the game, go to the replay folder and copy the autosaved full race replay,
saving it with another name.  You can then keep it; it won't get overwritten
and it works fine.  As for required memory, a 5-lap race with 8 AI is about
7MB, which seems a lot.  An edit function for the replays is really needed.

Sorry for the misinformation,

Steve B.

GP500 : wishing list before final release.

by Wolf » Sat, 21 Aug 1999 04:00:00

gday eric ... just wanted to point out a  couple of things mentioned in the
thread that are already taken care of ... if you read the trouble shooting
text that is in the gp500 dir ... you'll find these things ... one is that
you can limit entry to multiplayer games to simulation only .... its a true
/ false entry ... there is also a forceonbikeview = true ...

what from what ive heard from the developers in the #gp500 chat rooom the
multi axis is already in place but for some reason it isnt working in the
demo. It has also been mentioned that the code in the demo is 2 - 3 months
old and not really representitive of the current/release code. there are
going to be many pleasantly surprised simmer's when it comes out

also you can rename the replays that you save in the game but im not sure
about the auto replay ... and as that seems to be the only way to save a
whole race ...*shrug ... not too sure ... in the trouble shooting text ...
which has the settings for the gp500.ini which you have to make yourself ...
there is a setting for allocatin memory for the replay so you can get larger
replays ...the default is about 4 mg i think and just not    quite big
enough for a 6 lap race with 8 ai bikes

regards
Shane
