The MMX Pentiums are out in limited quantities (officially they will be
launched on Jan 8th) and are only about $60 more than Pentium Classics.
They are supposed to give a 10% performance boost for regular apps and
up to 50% boost for MMX applications. With the very similar price, I
don't see why you wouldn't get one.
Even with SDRAM, the VX chipset is no faster than the HX (with EDO it's
significantly slower), so unless you really want to start the switch to
SDRAM (you'll need to some day, especially if you want to overclock
with the higher bus speeds) it's not worth it. The key is finding a
board that supports the MMX's voltage (ASUS doesn't), the new 75 or
83mhz bus speeds, and SDRAM support. Right now the only boards that
seem to fit the bill are the new M-Tech R-534 and Gigabyte GA-586S with
the 5571 chipset from SiS.
