GPL + Powerslide = No GPL

I installed Powerslide...didn't work. reinstalled...didn't work.never
got going.gave up.
Sat down to drive GPL...didn't work. It got as far as the "Sierra
Sports" screen and that was it. Freeze time.
I've been on the computer for the last five hours trying to get it
working again.
I believe Powerslide installed directx6 drivers on my computer. I tried
reinstalling directx5. Reinstalling voodoo2 reference drivers. nothing
worked.
Even my Jack Nicklaus 5 doesn't work now.

What sound card do you have?

There have been some messages in the microsoft.public.directx
newsgroup about the direct sound component in directx6 and AWE64
Soundblasters causing games to crash. The solution has been to disable
the sound card when using directx6.

You can't just reinstall directx5, you have to remove directx6 first.
There are apparently some utilities available to do this (sorry I
don't have any links, someone else might like to help here)

Thanks for the tip. I've got an AWE32, but I don't see much point in
disabling it whenever I play a game that uses directx6.I'll see if I can
find that directx6 uninstaller. Other than that, it looks like I might
have to reinstall Windows.
