nascar and win98 problem

by Jon Hutchinso » Fri, 20 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I just upgraded to win98 and bought nascar from paparus. When I
installed nascar and go to the sound setup I can set the sound using
autodetec and I can hear Ned Jarrett. Then when I go back to the main
menu screen and exit to dos it seems to lock up. I close that window and
try to play the game and it comes back and says "This game must be run
in MSDOS mode do you want to close everything and restart pc". I click
yes and the pc reboots and nascar starts but with no sound. I try
setting the sound up under dos and it wont auto detect my sound card.
When I manually install the sound card using the same setting as it
found in windows and save the setting I still can't  get any sound. When
I go back to windows and try to install the sound card again it says
"Can't find I file, make sure the path is correct". The only time I hear
sound is if I try setting up the sound card on the original installation
using autodetect but when I exit the sound setup program the dos window
seems to hang-up. Any suggestions?

You need to configure your sound card under DOS. Windows will be able to
find it but once you reboot to DOS Windows isn't active. If you still have
the installation instructions and disks for your sound card refer to
installing in a DOS environment. You can also try changing the properties of
your link that  starts Nascar. Uncheck the box that causes it to boot to
DOS. I think the choice is to let Windows attempt to run in DOS window. It
will slow Nascar down a bit, but if you have a powerful enough computer it
won't matter. It will also save you the time from rebooting your computer
before and after the game.
