Help with Nascar 4 handling

by Jeff Toogoo » Fri, 10 Aug 2001 01:45:50

I just got Nascar 4 the other day and cannot keep the car from spinning out
going into a corner.  I have played Nascar, Nascar II & III with alot of
success.  I am using a Logitech Wingman Rumblepad as my controller and
everytime I go into a corner that involves braking my back end breaks loose.
Should I consider getting a wheel?  I am considering the Logitech WingMan
Formula Force GP Wheel.  Will this help me with the "feel" for the steering?
In Nascar 2 & 3 I could compete at 99% with the game pad and be sucessful,
in Nascar 4 I can't even be competitive with the opponent's strength set to
90% with this gamepad, I have to take it very easy into corners or I wipe
out.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You absolutely must get a wheel & pedals - at the very least a Joystick. A
game pad just will not cut it in NASCAR 4. BUT don't then suddenly expect it
to be easy. It's still tricky to control the car - it will take alot of
patience and PRACTICE! Don't come online tommorrow and wreck me as I lap
you!!

Alot of guys haven't managed to grasp the concept of practicing and getting
good :( When you can run clean and consistent (you don't have to be
particularly quick) come online and have fun :)

I'm sorry to tell you but your experience in N2 and N3 won't do shit for
you. You REALLY need a wheel and pedals or some kind of anaolog controller.
Still, you need to be VERY smooth and apply pressure to gas and brake
smoothly without too much pressure.

Thanks,
Alex

By all mean, get a wheel and pedals - you absolutely cannot control NASCAR 4
with a gamepad.  The LWFF GP is *okay*, but I have the older LWFF (which is
cable driven Vs gear driven on the GP) and it's much better, IMO.  Still,
the GP would be a vast improvement over what you have now.  I've got a brand
new LWF GP (note: no force feedback) that I'll let you have for $34.95.  I
mistakenly ordered it thinking it was a "Force" GP.  I won't part with my
Force GP since I now use it with my PS2.  The LWF GP gameport only, however.
Other than that, it's identical to the GP in construction.

Will the old LWFF work with the PS2 or do you need the LWFF GP?

Help with Nascar 4 handling

I just recently went from a Rumblepad to a GP wheel, and it is a major
improvement.  However the problem you are having sounds like something
else entirely.  With the Rumblepad, do you have steering and brakes and
throttle all set to stick axes instead of buttons?  It sounds like you
have the brakes on a button.  No matter what controller you use it is
going to be near impossible to get a decent lap out of Nascar 4 if you
have any of those mapped to a button instead.  I had steering on the
left stick, and throttle and brake splitting a single axis on the right
stick.  That actually worked quite well, the only reason I went to a
wheel is because I couldn't steer precisely enough with those tiny
sticks.  But my son actually does better with that setup than he does
with a wheel.

Hal
