Do I like it? ho -hum. I don't know yet.

I've a AMD 700 with 128Mb RAM and still at the start of the race from the
grid it stutters. I keep getting passed even at hockenheim with lowest wing
settings and the best gearing. It seems as though when 6th gear is selected
the engine struggles to accelerate let alone 7th!

I'm pushing on the 200 mark and the red light for 7th comes on just at the
end of the longest straight.

Anyone else finding this?

Plus anyone had any bad weather? Roll on GP3, I'm sorry I doubted you.

Shorten the gearing.

Stick with it - it really is fun. Probably the best modern F1 sim so far -
the physics feel good!

I have a 750 Athlon and 128mb RAM, and its all a question of tweaking the
graphics options - you can get it to look good and run smoothly. All sims
were problematical for frame rate when they were released - GP2, GPL, etc.

That's what is supposed to happen - set your top gear for red lighting on
the fastest part of the circuit!

Maybe so, but F12K will do for now, especially with all the tweaks that are
coming around.

I agree totally.  I got F1 2000 on Friday and am having a blast with it.
I feel it's the most enjoyable modern-era F1 sim I've tried yet.  Blows
away F1RS/MGPRS2 in a lot of areas.  The tracks are modeled very well,
and the cars are really fun and very challenging to drive.

I thought the tire model was too forgiving at first.  The cars seemed a
bit too easy to drive if I didn't really lean on the throttle, but when
I started pushing harder, I found I got the same kind of *** sudden
snap oversteer that I see the real F1 drivers coping with on TV.  Of
course, they cope a lot better than I do!

I think that ISI has done a fantastic job updating the SCGT game engine
to simulate F1 cars so well.  It does have some limitations, and there
are a number of detail changes I'd like, but overall it drives very
well.  The game design is excellent too.

Value, LWFF, PDPI L4, CH Pedals) but after cutting back to 800x600 and
judiciously tweaking the graphics settings, I've got it to run totally
smoothly when I'm driving solo (test sessions) and acceptable frame rate
in races.

I've driven against the AI at a number of tracks.  I must confess I
can't understand what people are griping about regarding the AI.  If I
turn them up to 100%, they simply disappear into the distance, but I'm
pretty sure that's as it should be; I don't expect to be able to keep up
with Schummi and co. anyway.  If I crank them down to a speed I can cope
with, I can have a great time racing with them.  Their straightline and
cornering speeds don't seem to be terribly out of synch with mine.  So
far I've just used the "grip" setup, so maybe if I start tweaking,
things will change.

I do wish there were weather effects.  I'll rent a Playstation copy to
see how I like that, but to be honest, having Force Feedback on the PC
is so nice - and the F1 2000 FF implementation is decent - that I don't
expect I'll like the Playstation version better.  Plus the graphics look
so much better on PC's these days.

I'm delighted with the arrival of F1 2000.  It's wonderful to have such
an enjoyable modern-era F1 sim available.  I'm really looking forward to
running the tracks in F1 2000 before and after each real race this
season.

Great job, ISI and EA Sports!

F1 2000 - ho -hum

Hi Alison,
It`s great to hear you like F1-2000.... I seem to like it more and more all
the time
(and I loved it to begin with ..lol). I only wish they would have
implemented qualifying
online and a way for your best lap times to be displayed\saved in replays. .
.

I have followed your web site for a few years now, and I just wanted to say
I think you
have done a great job with it. Sim racers of all skill levels and interests
can learn
something there.... it really is a one of a kind site :)

Anyway, I`m building up my ICQ contact list with people that enjoy racing
F1-2000
online. So far it`s up to 7 racers, and there`s also an "active list" for
F1-2000 that
I`m involved in.  I wish there were a dedicated server for this sim.... but
for now,
meeting up through ICQ seems to be the only way. If you have any interest in
racing
online you can join the active list: ICQ# 69384455 or you can reach me at:
ICQ# 17082631

Of course this offer is open to anyone that would like to play\race F1-2000
online.
Current lap times within our group at Imola range from 1:20 to 1:35 (Brazil
1:14 to
1:27) so there is a place (pace) for everyone :)

All the best,
Lorne

Thank you for this post, Alison!

I don't have F1 2000, it didn't reach Slovenia yet (perhaps today,
keeping my fingers crossed!). I read lots of bad opinions about it, but
overall I did get the impression that the things that matter to me are
done rather well. I just wanted an opinion by someone whom I know to
really be in the know of sims, but to get yours was more than I hoped
for!

Perhaps you should have posted this a few days later, though, now I have
no idea how I will be able to wait for the sim.

cut....

tracks modeled very well?!? did you see monza track? parabolica is something
like turn, straight, turn, straight and turn again!!! absolutely
irrealistic, parabolica is totally different...
driving theese cars is funny but I don't like driving on fantasy tracks...

I agree- it's fun. But I have a few issues:

1- No weather!
2- Graphics are OK, nothing more. Certainly not up to the
standard-setting beauty of SBK2000 or RC2000 for that matter.
3- Cars are unsteerable from the chase mode. Control becomes
inexplicably mushy. Also, the desingers (by choice?) saw fit not
to include any info, like currently selected gear, on this
screen.
4- I'm told several of the tracks are inadequately modelled.

On the other hand, the racing feel seems spot on- at least from
the***pit. And I think all the gnashing of teeth over the
frame rate is unwarranted. The game runs acceptably at 800x600
on my:
P350
128 Ram
S3 540

To test your topspeed, spin your wheels and gear up to the 7th gear.
You'll see the maximum speed so you can calculate if your gearsetup is
right.
It's useless to have a topspeed of 350 km/h.
