HELP needed with ICR2 installation

by Conr » Sat, 27 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Please take a moment to read this message - I'm pulling my hair out here over
what might be a really simple problem...

I've recently bought ICR2 and did a full installation on my PC at work.
I was very impressed, but I don't really have time to get into at work <g>. I
noticed that you don't need to access the CD during the game, so I thought I
could copy it to my notebook PC so that I can play it at home.

I got all the files across OK using Interlnk and ran the setup program to set
the sound card, etc. The game seems to run fine at first - I get the intro
sequnce with the speech, music and racing so the graphics / sound / memory /
files / processor must be OK. BUT, when I go to the main menu and choose an
option the text for that option just goes from red to gray, nothing else
happens. It hasn't crashed because you can still move through the options and
select them. Even the exit option doesn't work - the only way out is
CTRL-ALT-DEL.

I know that the box states that you need a CD-ROM drive for ICR2, but I can't
believe I've got past all the file copying, setup and CD hurdles only to get
stuck on the main meun! Can anyone please help? Replies via e-mail
prefered - I'll post any useful conclusions to the group.

BTW: My notebook PC is a 20MB 486DX4 running in VGA, and I'm using a boot
     disk.
BTW: Before anyone starts flaming, I don't see a copyright problem here - I'm
just transferring my copy of the game from one of my computers to
     another.

Thanks in advance.

- Conrad

How are your controllers set?  And actually, just because you got to the menu
doesn't mean the rest is set correctly...<g>
Try deleting or renaming the gameopt.cfg file(or something like that) and run
it again...

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?

I tried that but still no luck. In fact I tried another method in which
installation is done through the notebook PC as if the CD ROM were attatched
to it:

0. Delete my original installation
1. Copy the whole of the CD to hard disk on my desktop PC
2. Run the install program on my notebook PC via interlink to the desktop PC
3. Run the setup program on the notebook PC

Everything seemed fine, 'installation successful' message, start-up animation
and music but then the same problem - it's impossible to select anything from
the main menu!

Either there is something odd about my notebook PC (unlikely) or Papyrus have
a very strange anti-copying technique which only allows ICR2 to work if you
have a CD-ROM drive in your machine (even more unlikely!).

I suppose I'll just have to play ICR2 at work and do my work at home!

Check the file LIB.CFG in the ICR2 directory.  This file points to the
drive and directory where the program expects to find it supporting
library of files.  I have my CD in Drive H:, my LIB.CFG reads:
H:\icr2

Just edit yours to point to the drive and directory where you have
copied the full installation.  This "could" do the trick.

I had the same problem on my Pentium at work! I could never get it to work. Now I
have a home computer so I quit trying to load it at work. I never did figure out
what it was. Sorry this isn't much help, but maybe this is a bug that needs
attention?
