Oh man! ARC! I used to play that on TEN as a break from all the racing! I
kicked everyone's tail in that game. lol. Such a simple game, but so damn
fun!

I don't think it will really slow down the community at all.

There was (or is) a replacement for Sierra out there already.  I forget the
name of it.

RaceList?

NR2003 will live on way beyond this.

Here's one good thing.  We can run a No-CD patch now and not have to worry
about no online (I think) :)

Since the Sim is now so totally unsupported, wouldn't it be great if Sierra
would release a patch to remove the copy protection!

And the source code, while they're at it ;-) However I think that those
assets where bought back by iracing, right?

I wouldn't mind sparing a couple of servers to replace one of Sierra's
(match making/chat/ratings database) servers if I had some help with
it. I'm sure I could spare a few Gbs a month bandwidth to get started
with to atleast keep the "Sierra East Alpha Lobby" alive!

Clients would then just have to manually add/edit a few lines in their
core and player.ini's to be able to properly list all the races and
players in the lobby.

I guess I could just type up a simple batch script that would
automatically add the new server domain/ip addys also for the "dot
ini" challanged. :o

If you think its a good idea and would like to help, email me at

If not... well it was just an idea. ;-\

Actually it was a stand alone program that you ran on your pc.

That was never an issue. Have the regular and no-cd patch versions on your
system with different names. Just run the no-cd patch version then rename
the regular version after starting the game. Here's a sample batch file
that will do the trick. I thought this was well known a long time ago:

Rename cd-rom version to nr2003c.exe
Rename no-cd version to nr2003n.exe

Create a batch file with the following lines and use it to run online
with the no-cd version. At $80+ for the cd-rom, I want to preserve mine.

if not exist nr2003c.exe ren nr2003.exe nr2003c.exe
if not exist nr2003n.exe ren nr2003.exe nr2003n.exe
ren nr2003n.exe nr2003.exe
start nr2003.exe
ren nr2003.exe nr2003n.exe
ren nr2003c.exe nr2003.exe

Jesus Larry - where have you BEEN?!?!

I've been running on Sierra's servers WITHOUT a CD for a couple of years
now, and without using Jeff Reid's "workaround".  :)
