THE PITS!!! AND GPL!

by schwab » Thu, 25 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Hey all! I just popped over to http://www.racesimcentral.net/ and checked out
the News page, as I often do.

Well, they hit 1 Million hits... and YOU MUST check out the link to
their 1Mil celebration!!! There is a TON of stuff... including:

OH MY GOD!! A N2-ICR2 to GPL track converter!!! Forgive me for totally
freaking out, but COOL!!! Now we can race on the old flat ovals... from
ICR2, they have Phoenix and Loudon (bad choice, Milwaukee would have
been better, because it actually existed back then and rear-engined
Indycars raced on it... Loudon was just woods and moose shit back then).
From N2, you can have Hickory, Homestead, Loudon and the (modern)
Watkins Glen). Man, I can't wait to try it! Haven't yet, as I am at
work! LOL! :-)

They also have a "Superpatch" that has most of the GPL graphics and
sound packages out there on the web in one cohesive package.

AND they finally have a GPL Review... suffice it to say, GPL fans will
be pleased!!

For anyone who doubted Jan Kohl and crew because they liked EA SCGT,
well, take a look at this stuff and rethink what you thought.

Enjoy! Let me know if this stuff (converter) works!!

It all works great!

Also check out the Dubai track, conversions are one thing, totally new
tracks are something else......

Online racing moves to a new dimension!

Thanks Dave Noonan. :)))

YES!!!YES!!!!!YES!!!!!!!!!!! The converter works flawlessly!!!!!
Congratulations to Dave Noonan, this adds much to GPL.Racing the ovals
with no downforce is difficult, feels like a non- winged sprint car!My
only question now is,when will we get to convert the rest of the
tracks?I want Laguna Seca in the Lotus!
Thanks again Dave and the USPITS!

Dave  sure did a great job! Very sharp graphics. Fun fun fun!
About the new online dimension.....I could be wrong, but is it
so that there is no startflag? And that grid could be very funny on a
online race :-) Very close.

But still, thanks Dave and the USpits, up to the 2000000! (should be
the next week or so....)

Hell, I want a little of the opposite too!  Nburgring on ICR2 is what I want!
Imagine how fast Spa_Franchorchamps would be in a Champ car also... heh.  I am
heading to the Pits right now to pick up the converter!  =)

THE PITS!!! AND GPL!

by SteveBla » Fri, 26 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Saw the post and HAD to get a look at it myself.  Results in!

Just did (part of)a 30-Lap pro race at Loudon with a full field of GP cars(qual
5th w/a guessed setup; Clark was on pole w/a 29.07).  WOW!  Wheel to wheel,
front to back, lap after lap.  There are a few glitches, such as being able to
visually imbed your wheels partway into the wall before making contact, some
problems with camera angles in the replays, and poor Jo Siffert strangely
impaled his car on the pit wall after pulling in slowly during practice, burst
into flames and sat there cooking for the longest time.  But Loudon looks
great, much better than it does in ICR2, and if a solution for the missing
starter flag can be found, this will be great online!  And you can already see
that N3 is gonna KILL for close-quarters racing.

Just to compare, I went back and tried Loudon again in ICR2 right after.
Close, fun racing, but NO contest.  BTW, Clark's Loudon pole of 29.07 equals
131mph, compared to the 175 or so they run in ICR2.  The track seems much
bigger at the lower speed.

God bless you Dave Noonan!!!!!!!!!! (and all at www.theuspits.com, too!)

Spa in a champ car would be almost insane.  I dont even want to think about
the ring.
Tho Zanvoort would be a hoot in a Champ car.

I'm dying to check out the N2 tracks with GPL but can't get through to
The Pits GPL section.  I tried their European site but it did not contain
the Track Editor :(

Since the file is only 700K could someone post it to
alt.binaries.simulators.autos ???  Would appreciate it!
