Will N3 work w/200mhz MMX? Opinions/Experiences Please

by CaseyNBrow » Sun, 12 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I currently have Nascar1999 but am planning to upgrade to Nascar 3.
My problem is, I still have a 200MHZ MMX system. I've got an almost full
4GB hard drive, and 64 MB RAM. Video Card is an ATI Rage II.
N99 is running satisfactory, although after a while of racing it
tends to get jerky. I hate to spend money on N3 without some knowledge
of what I'm in for. If anyone has attempted N3 on a similar setup,
please let me know what you've expereinced and your opinion of whether
or not to stick with N99.

  Thanks Alot,

CaseyBrown

I'm running a K6233 MMX also with 64 RAM and AWE64.
My video however is a Monster Fusion 16Mb. With full field at Atlanta, I got about 10/15 fps while
the pack was in front of me. With clear track, about 20/24fps.
(All detail on, 800x600x16).

You probably should change video at the least or you won't get close to these figures. The video is the
real workhorse in this version, with the improved graphics. Recommend a V3 3500.

Realistically, we should be using at least a Celeron 450.

Hope this helps.

I was able to run it reasonably well on a P166 MMX with a 12
meg Canopus 3D 3dfx. All options turned on except antialising
and I got around 12-15 fps in a crowd and got to 30 fps on my
own. Two weeks ago I upgraded to a Celeron 466 with same 3dfx
and now hold 30 fps all the time.

N3 is no way the CPU hog that GPL is.

I was running a 200 without MMX and using a Monster Fusion and with
everything turned off was getting 9fps. It was playable but you miss a lot
of good graphics. As far as multi play that is a different story. Upgraded
to a PIII 450 and a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000, beacause Banshee was overheating and
couldn't cool. I now get 30 fps. Multiplayer still sucks.
