Need for Speed III: TIP OF THE YEAR!!!

by Jeroen van Engelenhove » Sat, 26 Dec 1998 04:00:00

This afternoon I suddenly had an idea. And it worked! Now, you want some
fun? Like to drive on some really weird tracks? I found the answer to your
needs! And it's VERY simple. Exchange .qfs files between track directories!
That's it! You won't believe your eyes!!!

All track directories got 4 .qfs files. By copying them to another Track
directory and renaming them the right way (you only have to change one
number!) you can get the greatest effects!

Example:
1. Go to /GameData/Tracks/Trk005
2. Copy all four .qfs files to a temporary dir
3. Open /Gamedata/Tracks/Trk006
4. Give the files in the temp dir the same name as the ones you see in
Trk006
(all you have to do is replace the '5' with a '6')
5. Copy these files to /Trk006 (overwriting the old ones)
6. Start NFS 3 and go to Aquatica
7. Enjoy... You won't believe your eyes!!!

The original files are on your CD-Rom so don't worry about that.

Small warning: not all combinations may work: I only tried a few yet.
Copying files to the Redrock Ridge dir gave me an error (nothing to worry
about though!). But copying the .qfs files from Trk008 to Trk004 worked
great and gave a whole new meaning to Country Woods (so that is what it will
look like over there in the year 2140...!)

If you find any great combinations, post them in reply to my message! Let's
have fun!

bedankt.

UNLESS you subscribe to all the newsgroups you listed below and had to
read this message all five times, what's the problem? Cross-posting has
been a Usenet problem for years.

You've posted your reply in FIVE newsgroups too. :-) Did you know you didn't
have to do that...? (Just look at the reply from Dhook456 in
rec.autos.simulators.) Now you've polluted five newsgroups with a totally
useless message. Who cares if I cross-posted? Certainly not the people who
like my idea for NFS 3 and aren't subscribed to all 5 newsgroups... They
will only be annoyed by your totally irrelevant message! Take a break, will
ya.

Jeroen van Engelenhoven

P.S. Because I don't know which groups you visit frequently (due to the fact
that you've send your message to all 5 groups), I had to send this reply to
all 5 newsgroups too. Hope you don't mind... :-)

P.S. 2. PLEASE, do not take this reply too serious: I'm only kidding! That's
what these newsgroups are all about, aren't they? Having fun! There is
already enough misery in the world today...

So:
Sorry for being so rude!

And, this message can be read in 5 newsgroups, so everyone knows I'm not
a bad person too :-)

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought the tip of the year for NFS3 was to 'take it back'. Carry
on.

% Boy, this is a discussion!!! :)))  i'm new in the newsgroups, so i don't
% know if this message will be posted in one or five newsgroups ;)

You need to check the headers of the message (and your followup) to
determine this.  In the original message there is the following header
which lists the newsgroups that received the posting.  For example the
message I am responding to had the following header:
Newsgroups:
alt.games.need-for-speed,comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action,comp.sys.ibm.p
c.games.misc,comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports,rec.autos.simulators

And when I opted to respond, the following header is made:
Followup-To:
alt.games.need-for-speed,comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action,comp.sys.ibm.
pc.games.misc,comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports,rec.autos.simulators

Now I can still send this to all of the newsgroups, but stop any replies
to my follow-up from going to all newsgroups by editing the Followup-To:
header to only list the newsgroups that should continue to follow this
thread.

By editing the Followup-To: to read
Followup-To: alt.games.need-for-speed,rec.autos.simulators

Anyone who responds to my message in any of the other groups listed in
the Newsgroups: header will only have their response posted in the 2
above newsgroups.

Lesson over...
