Nascar 4. Nothing really helped, and now I know why: it's not a
graphics problem, and it's not even a client side problem. Here's why I
am saying this: I was racing against a full field of cars at 100%, made
an error in judgement which caused a *** pile-up, and the frame rate
literally went to less than 1 fps. It actually appeared to be frozen
for a couple of seconds. However when I viewed the crash on the replay,
the frame rate was fine, but the cars kept disappearing and "warping"
around the track, and the engine sounds kept cutting out and then coming
in at the wrong pitch. This says to me that the problem is due to the
server, not the client. I suspect it's AI related, but since I have
never really played against a full field of real, non-AI opponents, I'm
not sure. Has anyone noticed, does your frame rate seem better when
playing on-line than when racing off-line? Just curious.
If you want to see the problem for yourself, you can see the replay
here:

Let me know if that link doesn't work. The replay is only about 20
seconds long, but it is approx. 2 meg, which is way out of proportion in
size to the other replays that I have looked at. So maybe that is
another possible problem, too much bandwidth required?

Hal
