GPL: Stupid question about pitboard key

by LLam5559 » Sun, 25 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

I'm asking a really stupid question here I know, and I apologize, but it's
bothering me...

There is a key in GPL for the pitboard, which I presume allows you to view the
current pitboard whenever you press it.  But whenever I press it, nothing
happens.  Doesn't matter if I've completed a lap, or 2 laps, or 10, that button
does nothing as far as I can tell.

Am I misunderstanding the purpose?  Doing something wrong?  I have got
auto-pitboard turned on.

On a related note, I've noticed sometimes I have to run several laps before I
get the pitboard display when passing the start/finish line.  Shouldn't you get
a time after completing the 1st full lap?

Thanks

-Lee

The purpose of the pit board key is to provide a way for the player to
see the pit board if they chooses to toggle off the auto-view option (if
auto-view is on this key will do nothing).  Note that the pit board will
still only be visable during the section of the track that it is when
auto-view is used, so at other locations on the track the button will do
nothing.

Remember that the pit board is reporting on your previous lap (except at
the Ring) and at some tracks (those in which your pit stall is past the
S/F line) you actually have to complete 3 laps to see the pit board.
The first 'lap' out of the pits isn't a complete lap so it doesn't
count.  Your second lap (the first full lap) counts, and you'll see the
pit board update with its info as you come around to complete the third
lap (the second full lap).

OK, thanks for the info! Now my mind (such as it is - hehehe...) will rest a
little easier!

The key you mention just toggles on and off the auto-pitboard feature
(that is, allows the pitboard to zoom up when you pass it when it is
on).
Hitting the key will NOT display the pitboard at some other place on the
track.

You get timing information after completing the second lap.  Remember,
this
is 1967 and the lap times our displayed by your pit crew righting your
last
lap down with chalk.  The results aren't instantly displayed
electronically.
You're probably not seeing it for "several" laps because you keep
inadvertently
turning it off by hitting the key that enables it in the first place.

Hope this helps,

Dave Ewing
