F12002 Controller Hang...help needed

by Lawman_027 » Sat, 24 Aug 2002 19:03:02

First,

W98
AMD XP1600
Shuttle AK31 rev 3
512 MB DDR
TB Santa Cruz
Gainward GF3 Ti200 Golden Sample
TSW2 Stock wheel/pedal - USB connect

When running F12002 (and only that game, it seems) I get "activity"
from the computer and then the W98 cursor appears on the screen and
then the steering and pedal controls freezes. The game continues to
run, but I cannot steer or brake. The problem then goes away after a
few seconds and the steer/pedal control is fine. Sadly, I usually
experience this in the middle of a high speed straight or long curve
and the rsults are not pretty. (My wife has heard a whole new level of
swearing as a result of this!).

My "msconfig" start up is next to empty and I run Endit All before the
game. It's almost like a power saving feature or screensaver is trying
to activate. Igot one suggestion at the Sim Bin forum that my usb
mouse may be a problem, (Logitech trackman marble wheel, latest driver
pkg. installed).

I saw a very similar post at the f1gamers.com, but there was no post
about a solution.

Can anyone offer a suggestion or assistance?

Dave

Well that is a puzzeler.  One thing you might try is enditall2.  It has
an option for turning off the screen saver AND any power saving features.
These are just grasping at straws because I don't really know what's
causing your problems.
One test would be to start the race, then unplug the mouse....(during the
driver intro's.)
The culprit 'could' be an IRQ conflict.  Your mouse and soundcard(or
some other card) fighting over the same resources.  When a new sound needs
to be loaded...blam..instant system thrashing.
So while your system is first booting, take a look at what each device
like your vid card and sound card are using for irq's.  Then go to Device
manager in the System control Panel and check EVERYTHING for
conflicts(should be under properties)  If you find an IRQ conflict, and can
re-assign in device manager you 'should' have a couple of options under the
resources tab.
If you can't change IRQ settings in device manager, remove the
software for one of the conflicting devices...like the soundcard....(if
that's the culprit) and then power down.  Remove the soundcard and place it
in another slot.  Restart, re-install your drivers and see if Plug and Play
assigns a new IRQ to your soundcard.
      Goodluck.
