Problems with Nascar Pro Digital Wheel

by TRUSRS » Sat, 15 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I installed the wheel today. I just installed the latest drivers from
Thrustmaster. I have DX7a.  I am now experiencing major slow downs with this
wheel. 15 fps in GPL, N3, and NL
7 fps in RC2k
8 fps in F1 2000

and yet Viper Racing still gets 60 fps

Before this I had the regular Nascar Pro  Wheel which had no problems.

Can anybody help me?
thanx.

Problems with Nascar Pro Digital Wheel

I have no experience with the TM NASCAR Pro Digital wheel, but I recall
hearing that the TM FF wheel was HORRIBLE with respect to slowdowns and
such.  If the Digital is based on the electronics from the FF version,
make sure that you don't have FF enabled in either the game or
Thrustmaster's setup utility for the wheel.  Let us all know if this
helps, as this is a great price on a digital wheel.

Try this:  Go into the Control Panel, then go into the Game Controllers
(where you calibrate your wheels/joysticks) and check to see if you
have the "Poll with interrupts enabled" feature selected under the
"Advanced" tab.  If so, de-select that option (if not, select it), and
then see if that affects performance.  Dunno if this will have any
effect at all on your system, but it can't hurt to try.

Problems with Nascar Pro Digital Wheel

I've had this wheel for a few months now and haven't noticed any slow downs
in any of the racing games (GPL, N3, SCGT, RC2000). The only problem that
I'm aware of is the buggy calibration software TM used and you can side step
it by doing the following: control panel, game controller, remove the wheel
from your list of controllers, then add it again, but don't go into the
calibration screen, get out of the controller window, back to the desktop,
start one of your games and calibrate within the game. I, personally, like
the wheel, once you get past TM's buggy software it is a great deal,
especially at the prices I've seen lately. Good luck, Tom

Turn off the steering wheel icon on the lower right of the toolbar.
It's a very useless keyboard emulation thing that does NOT work
correctly and will cause slowdowns on certain systems. You do not
need it to use the wheel in games either. Most can recognise all the
buttons. Make sure you pick the DirectX driver in the Papy sims
to see all the buttons. It's a really stable accurate wheel once you
get past the Guillemot driver kit. Only thing I pick on: the brake
pedal should have had full travel as well.

Yes I had it enabled. I will now disable the option and retest all the sims. I
hope this works.
I am so desperate to race!

Ok I have exited from that Icon. I also lakes the pedals from the old Nascar
Pro wheel better than the digital pedals. anyway I can swap pedals?
But first I must get the wheel working properly.
Also how do I change the axis from the pedals. I do not see a switch on the
wheel. thanx.

Well I finally got it working today
I disabled check for poll interrupts
and I also disabled the keyboard emulation thingy in the bottom right of my
cpu.
The only thing is now I have to recalibrate the wheel everytime I load up the
cpu.

Also how can I get this wheel to work in ICR2?
I run the dos version through windows.
thanx.

Also the pedals suck. How can I make them better?
thanx.
