My hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall, so I emailed them and asked
for another key code, and still after 3 days have had no response.

Doesn't your original key code work?

Have you tried the unlock section on their website?

>Doesn't your original key code work?

You have a limited numbers of keys, they can each be used once, and
there's no way to "unlicense" the software like you can with eLicense
products.  So basically if you reformat or have a crash, etc, you're
screwed.  I haven't played LFS in 3+ months because I'm out of keys
and dunno if it's worth the hassle to get a new one.

How can you tell how many keys you have (left)?

Interesting.  I've had the game since S1 came out.  I have two keys left.  I
thought also that not only do you get three keys but that your keys reset
after a month (or maybe longer) so that after a time you will again have
three keys, or something like that.

I just checked the web site, which says, to wit,

"You are not restricted to 3 keys only - every month you automatically get a
new spare key, in case you have problems with your computer."

The wonderful world of Product Activation.

For me, they went from Hero to Zero by incorporating this bullshit at the
last moment.

I bought it, but I haven't run it much.  Once I found out about the product
activation I just didn't see it the same way as before.

LFS was much more than just a game.  It was a new way of doing things.
People were happy.  It was somewhat of a community between the developers
and the users.  The product activation bullshit was a stab in the eye.

Ask Intuit.
Ask Symantec.

And don't be around me when I upgrade my NIC drivers on my Home Machine, and
I have to call Microsoft every time because it pisses off XP's Product
Activation, and I spend the next 10 minutes reading off and writing down 50
digit numbers over the telephone.

Just my opinion.  Not out to change anyone elses, nor is anyone else
required to try and change mine.  I absolutely detest these draconian copy
protection scheme's that cause neverending issues for paying users.

Are you speaking from experience or conjecture?  I have never had to
reactivate XP due to drivers.  I also have upgraded everything but the
drives and video card since installing XP and did not have to reactivate.
New CPU, new mobo, new RAM, new NIC, new audio adapter, no problems.

You should be able to do it via the website now, rather than requesting by
email.

Experience.  I've been through it many times, like I said in my original
