The end of last summer, a photography crew rented a Vintage Formula one car
(83 Williams FW-08) from the shop I work at and took it out to Thunderhill
raceway. One of the guys that also works in the shop went out to help them
with the car. I asked him what the pictures were for and he said "I dont
know, some computer thing I think" He said it was was over 105 deg. F and he
had to sit in the car with a driving suit on for hours while they got set up
and the track all wet with water trucks. The car did not run so the crew had
to push it. It took them two days to get the pictures the way they wanted
and with the right sun light. I can understand making the road wet for
reflections on a shiny new street car, but a race car? And what product were
they spending so much money on to get pictures for?
Today the guy from the shop that helped them said "Did you see the magazine
add with the F1 car? Its for some steering controller and you can see my
arms!" So I looked for an add in PC Gamer, and then I recognized the blurry
front end of the car in an add for the Logitech Wingman Formula Force Wheel.
Oh cool!, but uh.. you cant even tell its an F1 car. And the hand position
is weird. I guess he is correcting for a slide in the wet, and there are no
clouds? Two days to get that picture? Nice effect of speed though(they were
pushing the car).
I guess its good to have the picture blurry also so you cant see that its an
outdated F1 car.
