Rockingham setups please?

by kevin ingl » Wed, 26 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Just can't get the knack at the rock. I can run competition at 100% for almost
every track and be competitive. When I run the "rock" I just cant get the
setup. Worked with the quick fix guide and several setups from setup pages to
no avail. Main problems: not enough speed and can't get through the corner
w/out pussshhhhin' BANG.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I back off early at the rock let the car scrub off speed going
into the turns, (That should fix the pushin problem) then you can get on
the gas EASY earlier and have faster straight away speeds.  I've also
switch to left foot braking and have increased my speeds and tire
wear.  Thats my two cents..... also check out www.ivga.com, they have
a track guide going for NASCAR2.

Good luck at the Rock!

This is a toughy.  Next to the the road courses I seem to have alot of
trouble with this one.  Setup is the key.  But, then once you get a good
setup, you will find another locked door.  You have to approach both
ends of the track completely different.  Concentrate first with getting
turns 1&2 down.  Then work on an approach and exit to 3&4.  Now put the
3 indgrediants together and you should be doing okay.

I really appreciate how well Papy has modelled this track.  Just look at
last Sunday's race.  Mark Martin won the pole with a track record.  But
his setup just wasn't good enough for the race.  Even after tweaking all
day, his car just couldn't make it happen for longer than 10-12 laps.
Then there was Rusty Wallace who made an 8 lb. tire pressure change
during the race.

Anyway, I degress.  Here is a setup that I use.  It's not perfect, but
should be a good starting point.

        Pressure        Shocks          Camber
RF      50              70              -3.00
RR      50              70
LR      50              70
LF      49              85                .50

Gears 9.8 6.9 5.1 4.2

Weight Bias  Left 1900   Rear 1850   Cross 25

Spoiler 70

I can run 150-151 with the ACE setup. I haven't started tweeking yet, but shoul be able to
improve some. I have found you need to slow before you enter the turns here. If you are on the
brakes in the turns, you'll start pushing bad. I am off the brakes the minute I start to turn in,
then let the tires scrub off your speed.

Takes work, but you can do it.

You did'nt tell whilch sim you're using (i.e N1 or N2) so this might not
work at all, but for Nascar Racing 1 I use this setup:

Tires: RF-51, RR-51, LR-50, LF-49 psi.
Stagger: + 0.500
Fuel: 18-20 gal.
Spoilers: Front: 3,6 - Rear: 67
Camber: RF: -2.90, LF: +0.30
Weight Jack: Left: 1900 lbs. - Rear: 1805 lbs. - Cross: -30 lbs.
Shocks: RF: 65% - RR: 45% - LR: 50% - LF: 80%
Wheel-lock : 12 degrees.
Gears: 1st: 9.80 - 2nd: 6.90 - 3rd: 5.10 - 4th: 4.00

This setup works quite good for me and I'm able to do 149-150+ mph laps
during a race, but like in real life it all depend upon your driving style
and equipment. I use a Pentium 200, 48 mbRam, a T2 and LINEAR STEERING !!!

BEWARE: With this setup the car will be pretty loose on cold tires, so keep
"wingling" on those pace laps.

Hope this helps!
