NFS 2 Problem

NFS 2 Problem

by Jeremy Ril » Wed, 14 May 1997 04:00:00

Does anybody have any ideas.

A customer of mine has NFS 2, a Compaq Presario and a Mad Catz
steering wheel.

The wheel calibrates fine under Win 95 and works fine for GP 2 under
Win 95.  However it won't drive NFS 2 or Nascar 2 on that machine.

Howvere, both games and the wheel itself work fine on the work
computer where I tested them.

I have tried copying the working joystick.inf file to their machine
without success and the Joycal.exe program that comes with NFS 2
doesn't seem to load unless it detects a joystick plugged in.

Please help - both she and I are at our wit's end.

GP2 is a pure DOS game and thus gets it's joystick information itself.
NFS2 is WIN95 only and uses what you have selected and calibrated in
the joystick applet in the Control Panel. I suggest you try to
calibrate again, but choose Custom and then click the "Use as a
Racecar Controller" button. Then calibrate. Also, in the game under
controls in the options menu, you need to see it use a  joystick axis
for gas/brake/steering, not the default keyboard commands. Just
highlight the contol ...say right turn...hit enter and then push the
joystick right. It should change the input from "right arrow" to a
joystick axis (I don't remeber which). That oughta do it.

Do you have the wheel plugged into the soundcard?
