NFS sound problem

The install program for NFS will not find my sound card. Does anyone
know a way to
fix this problem. Perhaps manually set it in the startup line or edit a
startup file.

Hey Scott,

What kind of computer do you have?

I wrote the question for him. He has a TriGem computer, WIN95
and an ESSAudiodrive soundcard. There are no DOS drivers for the card.
Windows sets it up and since NFS is DOS I can not get it to find the card.
EAs support page showed how to do it if you have a config. line to add to
your autoexec.bat but I don't have a way to add that line (No DOS drivers
for the card), Let me know :)

Do you have a 'generic' card that is supposed to be 'soundblaster compatible'
or compatible with some major brand?  If so, then make sure you use the
settings in the startup files that you would use if you really had the genuine
card instead of the generic. ex: i have a SB-compatible card, NFS would not
work with sound on it, changed the startup files to the genuine SB code, works
great.

I have had the same problem with other dos games using the ESS card.  I
have yet to find a solution.  There are drivers out there for dos, but they
still don't work right.  I finally spent a few bucks and got an SB16.

I had a similar problem with an ESS Audiodrive soundcard.  If you are
trying to play in MS-DOS mode you need to add the Soundblaster strings
to your Dosstart.bat file.
