For Gear Up and Gear Down in N3's controller setup, I use the Act Lab's
dashboard buttons (bottom left and upper bottom right), but other buttons
may work as well, as long as they're not ones being used by the shifter. To
set up the Reverse button, put the shifter in reverse and take it back out
again.
This patch, I believe, is not compatible with unpatched games, so people you
race online with also need to have the patch. It basically increases the
number of buttons the game recognizes.
Driving N3 with the shifter set up this way is a blast! It really adds to
the realism.
