N4 convertor problem

N4 convertor problem

by Gerald Moo » Thu, 31 Jan 2002 11:51:55

I tried using the convertor on NL.  It says it can't find the game,
even though it is installed.  I noticed the notes say something about
c:\sierra\NLegends, even though my game is installed at
c:\papyrus\nlegends.  Is this the problem?

Also, will this convert any track from NL, or just those included in
the download?  All I really am interested in is the old Atlanta and
North Wilkesboro, and Riverside.

TIA,
Gerald

I haven't messed with it yet, but from what I understand, the N4 convertor
is not really a convertor, but a collection of fixes that allow ONLY those
tracks included to be transformed to N4.  So you can't take just ANY track
and make it work thru the convertor.

The only NL track it'll work with is Trenton.

N4 convertor problem

Well, darn.  Be that as it may, it still does seem to be broken, or
else I am just not comprehending the instructions.  It never reports
finding the NASCAR Legends source sim directory, and just shows a big
red 'X'.

I guess my next question is how do you go about "fixing" a track so
that you can use it in N4?

N4 convertor problem

Hi Gerald,

if you've pointed the converter to the right directory (using the browse
button) and the nl-exe is in there, then the only reason I can think of is
that you don't have the Trenton track installed?

N4 convertor problem

I don't have Trenton installed (at least the NL version, I have the GPL
version).  But what Gerald experienced is (I assume) exactly what I did --
with each of the other three sims listed in the converter, as soon as you
drill down to the folder that has the game's .exe file in it, the red X
turns to a green check mark and gives you a message like "N2 directory
found" or something like that.  Whether or not you have the tracks only
determines what shows up in the track list, not whether the games main
folder has been found.  I couldn't get the NL converter to give me a green
check mark, even when I pointed it at the original CD.  No worries, I simply
downloaded Trenton off the web page, but it does seem to be a minor bug in
the converter.

Yes, that is the problem, precisely.

... it never finds NL.exe, always the red 'X'.
