F12K, what's up with v109 No CD patch?

by Skip Hoo » Thu, 27 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Can someone fill me in on what this patch actually does?  I picked
up in another forum (presently down) that it would improve F12K's
performance.  But it wasn't clear whether that was refering to the 1.6
MB "No CD" patch or EA's 13 MB patch that does the basic conversion to v
1.09.  I'd see for myself, except I get a "Video Configuration Error"
message trying to run the No CD patch file.  I'll quit trying if all it
does is allow a copy of F12k already patched to v1.09 to run without the
CD.  Not something I care about.  But if it really affects framerates or
otherwise improve performance, then I'd appreciate that info and some
advice on fixing the video configuration error.

Thanks,

Skip

I downlaoded this NoCD patch after already having installed the 1.09 patch.
I saw no framerate improvement (but wasn't expecting to see any either).  I
can now run it without the CD though, which is a real convenience.

It ain't supposed to improve frame rate.  A nocd patch is installed,  so that
you don't have to use your original Cd in the drive to load the game.
