momo pedals transplant ** help **

by Bruce Mill » Tue, 17 Sep 2002 06:19:24

After reading some posts where some people have successfully
transplanted their momo pedal pots into TSW pedals, etc.  I decided to
give it a try.  I just finished building a set of my own pedals (with
the main goal being to increase the throttle and brake throw).  Now,
when I put the Momo pots into the pedals I made, only a very short
range of pot rotation is seen, and there is a large dead area on both
pedals.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the controller and I have
run the clear calibration program with no success.  I did not have
this problem when I wired my old LWFF into my old T2 a couple of years
ago.  Does anyone know what to do?  Do those who have transplanted
their Momo pots into their TSW's have an increased throttle/brake
throw?

If the MOMO treats it's pedals like the LWFF does, you need to adjust the
travel so that the wiper ranges from 1/3rd to full travel.

I've written a page on this subject, you might find it helpfull, although I
don't know whether it applies to the MOMO as well.

I sent my TSW pedals back to TSW (along with the Momo wheel) and they did
the job.  I haven't checked "under the hood" but it would seem logical that
if the Logi pots were getting only 1/3 rotation in the TSW pedals, then
you'd want pots with a 3x higher resistance.  That is, if the original pots
were 100K, you'd want 300K pots to get the same change in resistance with
that much less rotation.  There are various controller utils that would
allow you to trim the gross pot values to fit the desired range.  Or I could
be foo shee.
