I was browsing the other day and came upon www.sim-world.com which I
hadn't visited in a while.  (Nice job by the way).

Anyway, I clicked on one of the adversti***ts which was
www.gamestop.com  This is a software company like Electronics Boutique
I guess.  Anyway, I did a search for NASCAR and the following came up:

NASCAR Racing 4

Genre: Simulation
Publisher: Havas
Developer: Sierra
 $49.99
Ship Date: 10/16/00

What's this about?  I haven't heard anything about it....or have I
been out of the loop?  The publisher is Havas???  Is this a wrong
entry in their website????

Any information would be appreciated!!!

Havas owns Sierra.  As for the validity of the release date, don't bet the
farm. If places like Gamestop and EB World don't have an official release
date from a publisher, they will often make one up.

But is there a website out there that even gives us a hint of what to
expect on this version of NR???  I mean, I didn't really realize that
they were developing this simulation.

I know they are always developing, but is this the version that will
incorporate GPL type physics or just another "cash cow" product.  And
yes, I think N3 was a vast improvement and race it everyday.

Thanks...

Yes, it will be the second Papyrus product using the new game engine...

Nascar 4 was supposed to be Nascar 3. I believe it will be using
advanced physics, but then again ya never know.
Nascar 3 as you know is just an enhanced version of Nascar 2, and I
believe the only reason they released the rehashed Nascar 2 with some
improvements was because their superiors were pressuring them to
release something, thus we get Nascar 3.
Nascar 4 is planned to be released this year from what I hear and
according to Papyrus, much will be revealed about Nascar 4 at the E3
Expo on May 11-13, and their confident no one will be disappointed.

This is what I hear, so take it for what its worth :)

The second product? If you mean the GPL engine you are wrong!
Having seen N4 it is a very stripped down GPL with lots of code
from the past, still lots of familiar bugs! Things change slowly at
Papyrus lets not run the udder dry too soon!

10-4 on that, I'm done getting e***d about a new NR release from
Sierra/Papyrus until I know what they've done to it....

I'm not holding my breath and have ZERO intention of running out and
buying N4 as soon as it hits the shelf - I'm waiting until I hear some
good things about it 'cause if it's yet another N2 upgrade, why
bother?

Where did you see N4?  How did you see it?  Why doesn't anyone
else see it??

Because some of the beta testers share the game with their buddies
illegally
and they spread it to other friends etc. I could have got it but declined, I
did
look at it briefly on someone elses system. There are some features being
brought over from GPL(physics wise) but its no GPL. Very stripped down
version of GPL. Frame rate was a big problem with the early betas but it is
now more managable. I would call it N3 1/2 or probably what N3 should have
been. It still isn't a quantum leap forward like GPL was. Graphics were not
much
better either in the build I saw but I didn't spend anytime with it to speak
of.
Matson should be releasing info shortly at E3 show.

Frank, it is a very stripped down game model! It was okay but it didn't
blow me away. I haven't asked to see the very latest build because I have
other games I'm working on right now.

And how long ago was this?  And how long is it til it is to be released
(scheduled)

If the game is was that far in its Alpha stages when you saw it, it can and
will change alot by the time it is released.

Not saying this is a good or bad thing, just saying that you can not judge a
game by seeing it 6 months before it is finished.

Same thing goes with GP3, you get a certain group that already says they
will not buy it and you have another group that with every new game that
comes out "it is good, but it is no GP3".  How does anyone know? it is not
finished yet

It's not like we haven't seen N4.  We all saw the movie that was released
over a year ago, and a few of us even saw a live demonstration at Daytona
(last year).

How did "what you saw" differ from the movie that was to be for N3?  Because
from what I could tell, that was a far cry from the current N3.  And the
physics did not look stripped down from GPL.  They looked damn good - very
close to reality IMO.  There didn't seem to be a problem with frame rate
either, and back then the best processor was what, a P2-450?  The graphics
also looked incredible, with dynamic lighting, etc.

Looked like a "quantum" leap to me.  I seriously doubt if Papy have gone
backwards in the last year...

I have seen two beta builds the first was very slow FPS wise
and the second was much better. I would say the game is well along
towards its completion and would suspect its not that far off. I would
doubt that it will be six months. More like 2 or 3. I also suspect with
Charlie Heath leaving that his involvement was completed.
The last version I saw was a month ago and it was a recent build.

I would count on it! The first build I saw was slower than molasses
with very few of the tracks done. The second build was much smoother
with most if not all of the tracks done!
You may remember me posting about N3 on Jacobs NG well before
it was released. I was trashed for my remarks there because I said other
than graphics and sound there was no huge change. All the same bugs from
previous version were still there. I also stated a year ago that you would
see
a Daytona and Indy Track, I guess I just made a lucky forcast.
I'm not saying N4 is going to be terrible, I will be buying it. But if
you think
you will be seeing a Nascar GPL-reincarnate you are sadly mistaken. New
features, extra settings but still lacking. IMHO
I have not sat and played the game, or do I have it on my system. I have
been
contacted by the powers that be but its their job to police their beta
people not
mine. Its funny that some of the people that worked for Papy early on are
now
working for competitors to deliver a competing product. Only time will tell
if
they deliver a "Quantum Leap" but then again I may be more decerning
consumer
than you are!
